I really liked it, but I thought I bought nonsense. A solid four plus. for such ridiculous money.

    2 years ago 0

The plus is that it is thin, stylish, fast, the camera is excellent, the display is bright

    2 years ago 0

Both cameras are just a miracle 13 and 5 megapixels

    2 years ago 0

thin, stylish, fits very well in the hand, bright screen, amazing camera, clear photos, every hair on the cat is visible, fast, perfectly picks up satellites, normal battery, just needs to be “boosted”.

It often hangs, the phone cover does not open, there is no slot for a flash card

    2 years ago 0

There is no way to get to the battery, but we are in Russia and our craftsmen say that don’t worry, we’ll figure it out, although I’m cautiously waiting for it to start kicking

    2 years ago 0

nothing special. It hung a couple of times in 2 months of use, but the manufacturer immediately wrote how to “treat” it. 10 seconds and everything is ok again. Maybe the sound of the supplied headphones is not particularly good, but for music lovers, it suits me quite well.

    2 years ago 0

conversational speaker "metallic" sound, relatively low stability of mobile communications, slippery back panel, lack of pre-installed Google Play, non-removable battery, case is very difficult to find, apparently there will be no support - Fly bought the manufacturer :(

    2 years ago 0

    No memory card slot
    - with active use (Internet, social networks, multimedia), the battery barely lasts for a day

    2 years ago 0

A weak battery for such a processor, if you sit on the net it won’t last even a day. The Internet eats up the charge wildly, because the 4 cores are not thrashing like a child. In addition, the battery is non-removable and cannot be replaced. It would be better to make 2 cores of 1.3 each, and a 3000 battery, albeit at the expense of elegance and subtlety. Then there would be no price for this smart.
    - SMS over 3 pieces of SMS in length - automatically switches to MMS, that is, it is not possible to write long SMS, this moment is a little upsetting.

    2 years ago 0

After a year of use it stopped charging, so I took it to a service center. We did everything right, a week later there was another problem with charging, another trip to the service center (they did it for a month). It started to overheat and lag, now it won’t charge again, I’m thinking about replacing the phone.

Battery, speakers (although not critical), lack of expansion using memory cards

The modern world has truly turned into a kind of mobile platform, where there is a huge number of different devices. Manufacturing companies never cease to surprise us with something new and interesting. Recently, our laboratory received another new product from Explay, a budget smartphone, which received the very bright name Neo. In fact, this is not the main character from the movie "The Matrix", but it has everything that a modern user needs.

Devices from Explay have been in our laboratory more than once, and each time they surprise us more and more with the practicality and functionality of their solutions. Explay Neo is direct proof of this. So, let's get to know him better.

    Availability

Explay Neo is included in the line of budget devices. At the time of testing, according to the Yandex.Market service, the average cost of this smartphone is 7,980 rubles.

    Technical characteristics of Explay Neo

    • OS Android 4.2.2
    • Quad-core MTK 6582 1.3GHz processor
    • Video: Mali-400
    • Memory: 16 GB (built-in), 1 GB (RAM)
    • Display: 5 inches, 720 x 1280, IPS
    • Camera: 13 MP, Full HD, front camera 5 MP
    • Network: GPS, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n/, Bluetooth 4.0
    • Battery: 2000 mAh
    • Dimensions: 134 x 71.4 x 7.7 mm
    • Weight: 131 g

    Explay Neo package

The device arrives on store shelves in the usual Explay light brown box, where you can see the main characteristics of the device. The device comes with:
    • Charger
    • Headset
    • Special needle
    • User manual and warranty card

The developer tried to do everything so that the device would please the eyes of its buyer even when opening the box. However, at first you don’t immediately understand why you need a special needle, which looks more like an incomprehensible instrument. This accessory allows you to remove the cover from the SIM card for further installation. Very original.

    Explay Neo appearance

Explay Neo has a nice appearance. The aluminum insert on the edges of the device looks great, and the chrome particles only complement it with their beauty. There are no special complaints about him here. But still, there are some comments.

The 5-inch display almost completely covers the front side, but the lower part received an aluminum insert that perfectly complements the smartphone. There are also three touch control buttons on the bottom: menu, home and return to the previous page.

A 5 MP front camera is installed on the top of the front side of the smartphone, which particularly pleased us. Sensors and a speaker are also located here. On the top edge there is only a 3.5 mm headset jack.

The back of the device has a chrome-plated non-removable cover, which looks good against the general background. Although fingerprints remain, they are quite difficult to notice with the naked eye. A 13 megapixel camera with flash also fits here. There is a speaker on the bottom.

On the bottom edge of the device there is a connector for the charger and a microphone, which is covered with an aluminum cover.

On the left side there is a connector for micro SIM-1

On the right side there is a connector for micro SIM-2, a volume rocker and a button to turn the device on/off.

As we have already said, the back cover is non-removable, which means that access to the battery is closed to users. There is also no micro SD card slot, which means that the usable memory is approximately 12 GB. For some, this is more than enough, but picky users who are used to installing 32 GB memory cards into their gadgets for downloading music and video files are unlikely to be happy.

There is one more small nuance: in order to remove or install a micro SIM card, you will have to carry a special needle that comes with the device, because without such a solution the user will not be able to open the micro SIM cover. So if you often travel to different cities of the country and have to change SIM cards, it will not be very convenient to do this.

    Explay Neo display

Explay Neo was controlled by a 5-inch diagonal IPS matrix with a resolution of 720x1280 pixels. We did not have any comments here. The viewing angles of the smartphone are excellent, bright and rich colors are pleasantly pleasing to the eyes. The Explay Neo display supports up to 5 touches simultaneously. The sensor responds very well, no slowdowns were noticed.

    Explay Neo battery

A 2000 mAh battery is enough for one day of operation (in moderate mode). And even under heavy load, the device showed very good results: in Antutu Tester Explay Neo received 5584 points, and for a budget smartphone this is very good.

    Explay Neo filling

The device received a fairly powerful quad-core MediaTek 6582 processor with a clock frequency of 1.3 GHz, which is complemented by a Mali-400 graphics chip. Explay Neo runs on Android 4.2.2 OS, which is quite enough for full-fledged operation.

The user has access to about 12 GB of memory out of 16 GB on the phone without the ability to expand it using a micro SD card. In fact, all this is enough to download various programs, games, music, and a couple of movies to your device with periodic replacement. Although the manufacturer removed the ability to expand the memory independently, it gave 16 GB of built-in memory, which is enough for the average user.

    Communication Explay Neo

As for SIM cards, everything is standard here. For each micro SIM you can set your own preferences for use, for example, select one for the Internet, and the second for calls and SMS messages. But you won’t be able to talk on SIM1 and SIM2 at the same time. There were no problems with communication, the interlocutor heard us perfectly, just like we heard him.

Working on the Internet through Explay Neo is a pleasure; the 5-inch display is enough to surf the World Wide Web, chat with your friends, watch videos and listen to music.

    Explay Neo camera

13 MP main and 5 MP front cameras are one of the main advantages of the budget Explay Neo smartphone. There are a huge number of functions that allow you to create masterpieces.

The user is given the opportunity to use additional effects: changing ISO, shooting in HDR, Full HD resolution and much more. I note that the camera has very useful shooting modes. Take, for example, animated photos and object removal; few devices can boast of such weapons in their camera. It should also be noted that you can take 360-degree panoramic photos or use the automatic retouching function (see the video review for details). Photos from the main camera:

    Photos from the front camera:

    Explay Neo software

Explay Neo runs on the Android 4.2.2 operating system and has received small but nice additions.

For example, the Case-Case function, which allows the user to unlock the phone screen using finger movements, or answer a call without much effort, without pressing buttons, etc.

Otherwise, everything is as usual pleasing to the eyes. However, there are small nuances: for example, you won’t find Google Play on your phone, it has been replaced by Yandex.Store, but this is not a problem, the software can always be downloaded from the Internet and downloaded to your phone.

In fact, Explay Neo already initially has everything that is enough for full-fledged work: a movie poster, a navigator, programs for audio and video, and much more (details in the video review).

    Testing Explay Neo

The device showed very good results. In Antutu Benchmark, the Explay Neo smartphone scores 15,335 points.

Explay Neo was also tested in the Vellamo program and performed quite well. Here are the results:

    Explay Neo results

So, let's summarize the budget smartphone Explay Neo. The device has received serious hardware, which allows it to compete even with higher class smartphones. The 13 megapixel camera allows you to take high-quality photos and make great videos. Of course, it has small disadvantages, for example, a non-removable battery and the absence of a memory card slot, but the manufacturer compensates for all this with other pleasant solutions. In other words, a smartphone for 8,000 rubles has everything that a modern user needs and will be able to serve its buyer well. The Explay Neo device receives the “Gold” award. Subscribe to our channel, leave your comments, ask questions, we will definitely try to answer them. There is still a lot of interesting things ahead.

The ends and bottom panel are made of metal, an interesting design, a five-inch IPS display with OGS technology, a MediaTek MT6582 processor, a 13 MP camera - interesting? Yes! What’s even more interesting is that the official price of Explay Neo is 7,990 rubles!

    Design, construction

Just as a theater begins with a hanger, so getting to know any device begins with packaging. Many do not pay attention to this - in vain. You can immediately tell whether the manufacturer paid attention to detail. In the case of Explay Neo, it’s immediately clear that everything is in order with the little things. Neat packaging made of simple cardboard in the spirit of the latest design trends; many premium items now have a similar box. Inside is a smartphone, a device for removing a SIM card, an insert with a hotline phone number - you can always call if you encounter any problems. This kind of concern is nice. A separate box contains a microUSB cable, a power supply and a stereo headset with a remote control, with its help you can answer a call, start and pause playback.

The first thing you notice when you pick up the Explay Neo is the metal frame. And this is a very strong competitive advantage of the device compared to its classmates. The device can be briefly described as follows: it has an excellent design and characteristics at an excellent price. We'll talk more about the characteristics below, for now let's talk about the appearance. So, the metal frame feels pleasantly cool on the hand, making it seem as if you are dealing with a flagship device. On the top there is a 3.5mm headset jack, naturally you can use your favorite headphones. On the bottom there is a microUSB connector, it is necessary for charging and synchronizing the Explay Neo. On the right is a slot for a SIM card (on the left is another), microSIM cards are used. A thin volume button and power button are located on the right side. From an ergonomic point of view, everything is perfect, the thumb rests on the power button itself. At the bottom of the case there is a metal frame, the texture looks very cool, the metal is not smooth, but rough. The smartphone looks great when viewed from any side; there is a pattern of dots on the battery cover; at the back there is a camera, flash, and speaker hole.

The front is also something to look at. Above the display there is a speaker and a miniature dot indicator light, which is made very carefully. There is also a front camera lens, light and proximity sensor. Below the screen there are touch buttons, the dialing is traditional. The screen occupies almost the entire front panel. The dimensions of the smartphone are 134 x 71.4 x 7.7 mm, weight is about 131 grams, the device is not felt in your pocket, it fits perfectly in your hand. Even during long conversations, your hand does not get tired, but if you have to chat for an hour with your beloved, we recommend connecting a headset.

    Display

In terms of characteristics, the Explay Neo has everything traditional for a modern smartphone, the display diagonal is 5 inches, the resolution is 1280 x 720 pixels. But if you dig, then the most interesting facts come to light. Firstly, it is an IPS display, very clear, contrasty, and bright. Secondly, OGS technology is used, one glass solution, there is no air gap between the touch and LCD layers, because of this the Explay Neo screen has excellent viewing angles and brightness (when compared with conventional displays). Thirdly, thanks to this technology it was possible to reduce the size of the smartphone and its thickness. Finally, the frame on the sides of the screen protrudes slightly, barely noticeably. When you place the device on the table, the screen will not touch the surface.

This display diagonal is perfect for reading, browsing websites, playing games, and working with a variety of programs.

    Performance

Well, is it getting more interesting? Metal frame, display with OGS technology, what about the characteristics? Many of our readers who understand mobile technology are constantly waiting for a trick from the manufacturer. Like, if one thing is good, it means they saved money somewhere. But in the case of Explay Neo, you don’t have to look for a catch. It uses a quad-core MediaTek MT6582 processor, clocked at 1.3 GHz, 1 GB of RAM. The result in AnTuTu is 16,910 points; you can see the test result yourself in the screenshot. The smartphone will easily work with most programs; you can run any modern games for the Android platform. By the way, Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean is used here. 16 GB installed for storing data and installing programs.

Surely you will be pleased to know that Explay practically did not touch the operating system - you can independently choose the shell, programs, and change the interface. In our opinion, the Explay Neo buyer understands modern smartphones and knows what result he wants to get. After all, the good thing about Android is that it allows you to assemble a system to your liking, choose the appearance, the necessary programs, and widgets. The changes affected only the icons; they look better than in the original OS.

    CPU

We would like to talk separately about the processor - so that you will also be interested. The fact is that Explay Neo is one of the first affordable fashion smartphones that uses such a powerful chipset. Why is this necessary? After all, proven dual-core processors are ideally suited for middle-class devices; let’s just say this is a typical solution for our time. And here, in a beautiful smartphone with a completely understandable positioning, there’s suddenly a quad-core processor. For what? Let's try to explain with clear examples. Firstly, the power of the MediaTek MT6582 processor allows you to work with any applications and games, including the most modern ones. Try to run some “heavy” toy on a device with a weaker processor and you will immediately understand the difference - slowdowns, crashes, all this will certainly happen. The Mali-400MP2 graphics subsystem is used - a time-tested solution that is optimally suited for working with 3D graphics. Secondly, the processor supports high-resolution displays - this is what allowed the company to install an HD display in the Explay Neo. Thirdly, many are afraid of four cores due to power consumption; the MediaTek MT6582 has everything in order with optimization, so the smartphone behaves like a regular device with Android on board - if you don’t constantly torment it with games, then the Explay Neo can last a day and a half. Finally, there is FM radio, many of you are used to listening to music in this way - do not deny yourself the pleasure. Just keep in mind that you need to connect a headset for the radio to work.

In general, the use of MediaTek MT6582 is more than justified - on the one hand, a stylish and affordable smartphone can be productive, on the other hand, it can cost the same as a regular “dual-core” smartphone. For Explay this is a serious step forward, but for MediaTek it is a successful and indicative experiment.

    Dual SIM cards

Let us remind you that Explay Neo uses two SIM cards of micro format; there can be a lot of use cases; we will give only three main ones.

    • One SIM card is working, the second one has a personal number
    • Travel SIM and Home SIM
    • One SIM card for calls, the second for the Internet

In any case, you can choose the most convenient way for you to use the capabilities of Explay Neo. For us, the editors of Mobile-review, the option with a SIM card for travel is optimal.

    Camera

The camera for a modern smartphone is as important as a powerful processor and thoughtful design. Explay Neo has a main camera with a 13 MP sensor, a front camera of 5 MP, it is perfect for video calls and taking selfies. By the way, thanks to its unusual design, lightness and excellent photographic characteristics, we confidently recommend that girls take a closer look at the Explay Neo - maybe this is your next smartphone?

The camera has a number of interesting features. This includes panoramic shooting, automatic retouching of faces in the photo, and an option that allows you to create a file in gif format. Many of you have seen funny “gifs” on the Internet - how about creating your own? Another function is related to removing unnecessary objects from the frame. For example, you are filming your girlfriend against the backdrop of a historical landmark, cars are rushing by behind or people are walking. The device creates several frames and then superimposes one on top of the other, leaving only the necessary objects. It will come in handy when traveling or even during a regular walk around the city.

It is able to quickly solve business problems, has a large memory for storing user content and a strict, stylish body design.

One of the main features of the new Neo smartphone from Explay is a large 5-inch ultra-clear IPS touch display with a resolution (1280*720 pixels). The image looks juicy and bright. Small interface elements are displayed clearly, and image quality remains unchanged even from a wide viewing angle thanks to OGS technology - one glass solution. A screen made using this technology is distinguished by the absence of a layer between the touch and liquid crystal layers, thereby increasing image brightness and viewing angles.

Also, thanks to this technology, the Explay Neo case is thin and light. Good screen characteristics allow you to enjoy watching your favorite movies, photos in excellent quality, and reading text files and working with office programs from such a smartphone will be comfortable for the eyes.

The powerful 4-core MTK 6582 processor with a frequency of 1.3 GHz provides the highest performance, stable multitasking and graphics, while maximizing battery efficiency.

The smartphone runs on the Android 4.2.1 Jelly Bean operating system and has 1 GB of RAM. The 16 GB internal drive is designed to store applications and user data. Thanks to this, Explay Neo is ideal for quickly solving business problems.

Explay Neo supports two microSIM cards. This quality is important for a smartphone of our time, as it allows you to combine a work and personal number in one device or save money by choosing suitable tariff plans from different operators.

Excellent photo capabilities are provided by a 13-megapixel camera with autofocus and high shooting speed and a 5-megapixel front camera. The camera provides natural color reproduction and excellent detail. Particularly noteworthy is the Magic Camera function, which allows you to add effects such as:

    • 360° panoramic photography.
    • Object removal technology allows you to leave only those objects that are necessary in the frame. By superimposing from 5 to 16 images, only stationary objects remain in the photograph.
    • Using the “animated photo” option, you can create photos in gif format, part of such a photo will be animated.
    • The auto retouch function allows you to correct the complexion in a photo (lighten or darken).

Explay Neo supports the full range of wireless connections: 3G, GPS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0. There are also a number of standard and additional applications, such as voice recorder, mail, FM radio, Yandex application package and others.

Explay Neo is made in a stylish, thin case. The lower front panel under the screen and side inserts are metal, the back panel is made of matte black plastic, has a pattern with slight iridescence, is pleasant to the touch and does not leave fingerprints or dirt. The frames on the sides of the body are minimized, the weight of the smartphone is only 131 grams, and the dimensions are 134 * 71.4 * 7.7 mm.

    General characteristics

    Type

Deciding on the type of device (phone or smartphone?) is quite simple. If you need a simple and inexpensive device for calls and SMS, it is recommended to choose a telephone. A smartphone is more expensive, but it offers a wide variety of options: games, videos, the Internet, thousands of programs for all occasions. However, its battery life is significantly less than that of a regular phone.

Almost all modern smartphones have Wi-Fi and USB interfaces. Bluetooth and IRDA are a little less common. Wi-Fi is used to connect to the Internet. USB is used to connect your phone to a computer. Bluetooth is also found in many phones. It is used to connect wireless headphones, to connect your phone to wireless speakers, and also to transfer files. A smartphone equipped with an IRDA interface can be used as a universal remote control. Glossary of terms for the category Mobile phones
