In fact, this is not the main character from the movie "The Matrix", but it has everything that a modern user needs.

Devices from Explay have been in our laboratory more than once, and each time they surprise us more and more with the practicality and functionality of their solutions. Explay Neo is direct proof of this. So, let's get to know him better.

The developer tried to do everything so that the device would please the eyes of its buyer even when opening the box. However, at first you don’t immediately understand why you need a special needle, which looks more like an incomprehensible instrument. This accessory allows you to remove the cover from the SIM card for further installation. Very original.

The 5-inch display almost completely covers the front side, but the lower part received an aluminum insert that perfectly complements the smartphone. There are also three touch control buttons on the bottom: menu, home and return to the previous page.

A 5 MP front camera is installed on the top of the front side of the smartphone, which particularly pleased us. Sensors and a speaker are also located here. On the top edge there is only a 3.5 mm headset jack.

The back of the device has a chrome-plated non-removable cover, which looks good against the general background. Although fingerprints remain, they are quite difficult to notice with the naked eye. A 13 megapixel camera with flash also fits here. There is a speaker on the bottom.

As we have already said, the back cover is non-removable, which means that access to the battery is closed to users. There is also no micro SD card slot, which means that the usable memory is approximately 12 GB. For some, this is more than enough, but picky users who are used to installing 32 GB memory cards into their gadgets for downloading music and video files are unlikely to be happy.

There is one more small nuance: in order to remove or install a micro SIM card, you will have to carry a special needle that comes with the device, because without such a solution the user will not be able to open the micro SIM cover. So if you often travel to different cities of the country and have to change SIM cards, it will not be very convenient to do this.

The user has access to about 12 GB of memory out of 16 GB on the phone without the ability to expand it using a micro SD card. In fact, all this is enough to download various programs, games, music, and a couple of movies to your device with periodic replacement. Although the manufacturer removed the ability to expand the memory independently, it gave 16 GB of built-in memory, which is enough for the average user.

Otherwise, everything is as usual pleasing to the eyes. However, there are small nuances: for example, you won’t find Google Play on your phone, it has been replaced by Yandex.Store, but this is not a problem, the software can always be downloaded from the Internet and downloaded to your phone.

Design, construction

Just as a theater begins with a hanger, so getting to know any device begins with packaging. Many do not pay attention to this - in vain. You can immediately tell whether the manufacturer paid attention to detail. In the case of Explay Neo, it’s immediately clear that everything is in order with the little things. Neat packaging made of simple cardboard in the spirit of the latest design trends; many premium items now have a similar box. Inside is a smartphone, a device for removing a SIM card, an insert with a hotline phone number - you can always call if you encounter any problems. This kind of concern is nice. A separate box contains a microUSB cable, a power supply and a stereo headset with a remote control, with its help you can answer a call, start and pause playback.

The first thing you notice when you pick up the Explay Neo is the metal frame. And this is a very strong competitive advantage of the device compared to its classmates. The device can be briefly described as follows: it has an excellent design and characteristics at an excellent price. We'll talk more about the characteristics below, for now let's talk about the appearance. So, the metal frame feels pleasantly cool on the hand, making it seem as if you are dealing with a flagship device. On the top there is a 3.5mm headset jack, naturally you can use your favorite headphones. On the bottom there is a microUSB connector, it is necessary for charging and synchronizing the Explay Neo. On the right is a slot for a SIM card (on the left is another), microSIM cards are used. A thin volume button and power button are located on the right side. From an ergonomic point of view, everything is perfect, the thumb rests on the power button itself. At the bottom of the case there is a metal frame, the texture looks very cool, the metal is not smooth, but rough. The smartphone looks great when viewed from any side; there is a pattern of dots on the battery cover; at the back there is a camera, flash, and speaker hole.

The front is also something to look at. Above the display there is a speaker and a miniature dot indicator light, which is made very carefully. There is also a front camera lens, light and proximity sensor. Below the screen there are touch buttons, the dialing is traditional. The screen occupies almost the entire front panel. The dimensions of the smartphone are 134 x 71.4 x 7.7 mm, weight is about 131 grams, the device is not felt in your pocket, it fits perfectly in your hand. Even during long conversations, your hand does not get tired, but if you have to chat for an hour with your beloved, we recommend connecting a headset.

In terms of characteristics, the Explay Neo has everything traditional for a modern smartphone, the display diagonal is 5 inches, the resolution is 1280 x 720 pixels. But if you dig, then the most interesting facts come to light. Firstly, it is an IPS display, very clear, contrasty, and bright. Secondly, OGS technology is used, one glass solution, there is no air gap between the touch and LCD layers, because of this the Explay Neo screen has excellent viewing angles and brightness (when compared with conventional displays). Thirdly, thanks to this technology it was possible to reduce the size of the smartphone and its thickness. Finally, the frame on the sides of the screen protrudes slightly, barely noticeably. When you place the device on the table, the screen will not touch the surface.

This display diagonal is perfect for reading, browsing websites, playing games, and working with a variety of programs.

Well, is it getting more interesting? Metal frame, display with OGS technology, what about the characteristics? Many of our readers who understand mobile technology are constantly waiting for a trick from the manufacturer. Like, if one thing is good, it means they saved money somewhere. But in the case of Explay Neo, you don’t have to look for a catch. It uses a quad-core MediaTek MT6582 processor, clocked at 1.3 GHz, 1 GB of RAM. The result in AnTuTu is 16,910 points; you can see the test result yourself in the screenshot. The smartphone will easily work with most programs; you can run any modern games for the Android platform. By the way, Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean is used here. 16 GB installed for storing data and installing programs.

Surely you will be pleased to know that Explay practically did not touch the operating system - you can independently choose the shell, programs, and change the interface. Firstly, the power of the MediaTek MT6582 processor allows you to work with any applications and games, including the most modern ones. Try to run some “heavy” toy on a device with a weaker processor and you will immediately understand the difference - slowdowns, crashes, all this will certainly happen. The Mali-400MP2 graphics subsystem is used - a time-tested solution that is optimally suited for working with 3D graphics. Secondly, the processor supports high-resolution displays - this is what allowed the company to install an HD display in the Explay Neo.
