How to remove the protective glass from an iPhone? How to remove protective glass from an iPhone: recommendations What you will need to remove the old protective glass from your phone.

Sooner or later, the service life of the protective glass on the iPhone 6 ends with the appearance of cracks after a fall, or the appearance of chips on the end edge. Further use of a smartphone with armored glass of this quality can end in disaster, both for the gadget’s display and for cuts to the fingers.

To avoid consequences after the glass chips or cracks appear, we advise you to replace the protective glass with an iPhone 6 of better quality. For example, one of the popular and durable ones is the sapphire series, with full display coverage and rounded edges.

Quick removal of protective glass using the example of Apple iPhone 6

Before replacing the armored glass, the glass must be removed. It's easy to do. We will need only 2 plastic cards (bank cards, discount cards, etc.).

Carefully and alternately pry the edge of the glass on one side and the other. Place plastic cards into the resulting air gap, as shown in the photo.

Advice. To pry the glass most safely, try to use thin but durable objects. A plastic ruler or small fingernails work well for this.

After the plastic cards are placed under the protective glass, carefully slide them into the bottom of the iPhone 6. There is no need to rush.

Attention! After cracks form on the glass, micro fragments may appear that will scratch the smartphone screen on the back side. That is why the process of peeling off glass should be carried out carefully and effortlessly.

Removing the glass from an iPhone 6 is quite easy and will not be difficult even for a beginner. If you have already selected or purchased a protective cover for your Apple iPhone 6, be sure to use our instructions for replacing it.

We divide screen malfunctions into two categories:

  1. glass broken;
  2. The electronics are malfunctioning (the touch system does not work clearly, the image is poor).

Attention: safety precautions

Cover the broken screen with tape, possibly in several layers. Protect your hands and eyes from splinters.

Before glass replacement begins, the iPhone 6 must be turned off, otherwise the chips may burn out during dismantling.

Video instruction:

Is it possible to replace only the glass without changing the display?

If the glass is broken, the sensors may function for some time. In this case, the owner is interested in: is it possible to replace the glass of an iPhone 6 while maintaining the front panel with expensive electronics? Alas, the service center is unlikely to agree to perform a labor-intensive and risky operation: the glass is glued, its replacement requires jewelry work; in the process of struggling with strong glue, the master endangers the sensory system. Re-gluing the glass can result in an incorrectly functioning screen.

Enthusiasts do such repairs for themselves, and sometimes achieve success. In most cases, an iPhone with new glass seems to come to life, but something is wrong: the sensors do not work everywhere, image defects appear. The more attempts, the better the result. If you want to become a virtuoso, train; If you want to quickly fix your iPhone, replace the entire panel.

Star screws secure access

Any repair begins with separating the top panel with the display from the bottom mounting panel.

The first step is to unscrew the two tricky five-point torx screws located next to the Light connector. If there is no star screwdriver, you need to postpone the repair - without this tool nothing will work.

A few words about tools for repairing iPhones. They form a special community. They are beautiful, unusual, there are many good and different ones, and they are expensive. Having become the owner of a wonderful apple repair kit, an amateur is transformed into a pro - there is simply nothing else left.

In addition to a screwdriver, you need thin and durable plastic spatulas, mediators, and plates; curved pointed probes; tools with suction cups. All this is found and bought via the Internet.

Opening an iPhone: two good ways and one real one

Regardless of whether you plan to replace the top panel completely, or you will try to re-glue the glass, the halves of the iPhone need to be separated.

The photographs illustrating the dismantling show tools with suction cups, making it easier to separate the sashes.

The first method is to open the iPhone with the iSclack tool. It is suitable if the glass is intact. The suction cups need to be attached to the side of the main button, because on the opposite side there are cables connecting the front and mounting panels. After installing the suction cups, gently and smoothly press the handles until the lid opens.

The second method is also for whole glass, or for glass with minor damage. A suction cup with a ring is attached to the front panel on the side of the main button. Expand the gap between the upper and lower halves of the iPhone with a plastic plate or spatula, pull the ring with a suction cup and achieve separation of the wings.

No amount of suction cups will help if the screen is covered with a network of cracks, and this happens in most cases. Be patient, carefully widen the gap, use the spatula as a lever. Perform all movements with gentle pressure, do not use brute force. The panel contact has weak spots near the connectors, increase the force at these gaps.

When separating the halves, be careful: they are connected by cables that must be carefully disconnected. Fold the front panel 90 degrees; it should remain in this position until it is completely separated; You can’t open it any further, otherwise the cables will become stretched and something might break.

Remove the bracket and do not mix up the screws

The connectors of the cables are fixed on the mounting panel with a bracket. It must be removed by unscrewing five screws. The tricky part is that the screws must not be mixed up during reassembly: they have different lengths. If they are marked with colored dots, take a photo. If all the hats are the same, label them yourself and take a photo too. You can paint the dots with varnish and glue pieces of tape. Don't lose the screws, they are difficult to find replacements; Place the unscrewed parts in some container.

Disconnect the loops

Finally, iPhone 6 glass replacement is entering its final phase. Disconnect the cable connectors. This is a crucial moment: contacts are small, but their role is great. Carefully pry the connectors with a plastic spatula and lift them up. After releasing the three cables, remove the front panel.

Reassemble in reverse order

In this case, the proverb “breaking is not building” does not work. Reassembly is simple and does not take much time. However, assembly requires a new panel; If you don’t want to buy it and are relying on re-gluing the glass, then first you need to carry out all the necessary peeling and gluing procedures.

During glass work, place the mounting panel in a bag and put it in a box or cabinet so as not to damage the miniature parts.

The display is the most fragile and weak point of the iPhone 6. Especially due to its significantly increased dimensions and smoothness, it always tries to slip out of your hands. And then it depends. Experience shows that you are not always lucky, and the frequency of requests for repairs is proof of this.

Depending on the extent of damage, different repair methods are selected. Your iPhone will need to replace its display if it stops responding to commands, or spots, streaks, or smudges appear on the image. In this case, the matrix is probably damaged and cannot be repaired - you will only have to install a new screen.

But if the monitor works, and the glass only cracked (as often happens - they put it in the back pocket of their jeans and sat down), then simply replacing the broken glass with a whole one is enough. Moreover, we do not recommend postponing it for a long time. Sharp edges and fragments inevitably scratch the matrix, it becomes unusable, and then - see above.

In principle, due to design features, replacing the glass in the iPhone 6 involves installing an entire display unit in the assembly. As a rule, this option is much more expensive due to the high cost of the original spare parts. And another plus is the work of the service department... In order to save at least a little on repairs, we suggest you try to do it yourself.

We replace the display on the iPhone ourselves

In order to change the glass on an iPhone, you will have to partially disassemble its case. Before you start disassembling, do not forget to turn off your smartphone. Find two sockets with star-shaped pentalobe screws near the lightning connector.

Unscrew them with a special pentagonal screwdriver - designed for ø 3.6 mm.

After unscrewing the screws, you need to begin to slowly remove the display cover. To avoid damaging the seal between the glass and the body by prying it with hard objects, it is better to use a regular suction cup with a gripping ring. Place it just above the Home button and pull it lightly.

Just slightly, since the cover, in addition to the screws, is also held in place by a number of latches located around the perimeter. Pull them carefully, starting from the area near the fasteners you just removed and moving further as the case opens.

If you don’t have a suction cup (but we still strongly recommend purchasing one), then you can try using wide tape. It will be much easier to wipe off traces of the adhesive coating of the tape than to restore damaged seals after barbaric rough disassembly. Moreover, after such a procedure you can forget about the vaunted tightness of the case.

Opening the top panel vertically, you will see wire connecting cables located in the camera area. They are the ones that interfere with final removal, so you will have to disconnect them from the system part of the device. However, access to their connectors is blocked by a protective metal strip.

You can get to the connection points between the cables and the board by removing five fastening screws from the protective panel. Don't be alarmed - they have different diameters - that's how it was intended (don't forget this later when assembling).

After unscrewing them, we remove the safety cover.

And now the “sandwich” of trains opens up in front of us in all its glory. We begin, one by one, to disconnect them from the motherboard.

First, the camera cables are removed, then the speakers and the “Home” buttons, and last are the cables for connecting the display.

Try to do everything very carefully so as not to loosen the connectors and reduce the sensitivity of the plugs. In the future, this is fraught with all sorts of interruptions in operation or even serious breakdown.

Done - now the display can be easily disconnected.

Next, you need to remove the earpiece and front camera attached to it from the dismantled non-working top panel, as well as the “Home” button. Since they are not included with the new display part.

We do everything according to the same principle - first remove the metal mounting panels - unscrew the screws, and then disconnect the cables.

This is what the shield above the camera with the speaker looks like.

And so – the connecting cables, carefully disconnect them.

In the photo below - “Home” - the actions are similar: unscrew, remove the shield, disconnect the cable from the board.

Since the “Home” button, for better sealing, has a factory seal, in order to remove it without damage, warm up the case a little. Without special tools, this can be done over a regular light bulb, for example.

And finally, by unscrewing the fastening screws on the arms around the perimeter, we remove the metal plate that protects the display from the inside.

That's it, we successfully completed half of the work. Then, after printing the original new display, reassemble the entire structure in reverse order. Check especially carefully the reliability of all connections of the cables to the board. This is how iPhone glass replacement is usually done. There is nothing complicated.

If you are not sure that you will remember the location of all the disassembled elements and the order in which they are disconnected, then we advise you to photograph all the actions performed step by step. This minimizes the risk of finding “extra” parts after the iPhone glass replacement is completed. To avoid getting confused and losing tiny screws, put them in separate trays.

Is it possible to replace only the glass yourself?

If, after damage, the display matrix continues to work and the image it produces is of good quality, then it will be enough to install new glass. Replacing the iPhone 6 glass will cost much less than reinstalling the entire unit. Even taking into account the work of an experienced professional.

In principle, replacing iPhone glass on your own at home, without a special set of tools and equipment, is hardly possible. Since it is glued very tightly, you cannot simply remove it by hand. You will need a separator to warm up the display, a remover for the factory adhesive coating, new glass, fishing line, special glue and a UV lamp to fix and polymerize it. But they are not cheap, and there is no point in buying everything for a one-time procedure.

Glass cracks are a problem that almost every smartphone owner faces. The screen is one of the weak points of iPhones, especially if the phone is not protected by a bumper. A more or less strong blow or fall from a height results in the replacement of the display glass, which costs the owner of the gadget a pretty penny.

How to repair iPhone 6 screen

There are two ways to fix the problem: take the equipment to a service center or replace the iPhone 6 glass yourself. The first option is simple and fast: an experienced technician only needs 30-40 minutes to solve the problem. At the same time, he will replace the glass without the display. If you want to save money by repairing your phone yourself, it is better to replace the entire display module.

Benefits of replacing the screen with a display module assembly

To replace iPhone glass separately from the display, you need to have certain skills and additional equipment. Almost anyone can change the display assembly (touchscreen+frame+glass). This option has other advantages:

  • The cost of repair is equal to the cost of the module itself. If you order not the original module, but a high-quality copy, you can save even more.
  • A completely new display, not just glass.
  • No risks associated with falling into the wrong hands (loss of parts, information leakage, etc.).

Instructions for replacing iPhone 6 glass (display module)

Before you replace the glass on your iPhone 6 yourself, prepare a pintalobe screwdriver, a regular Phillips screwdriver, a screen suction cup and a plastic spatula (guitar pick).

When replacing glass on an iPhone 6, know a few rules:

  • iPhone screws vary in length. When unscrewing, it is advisable to fold them in order so as not to confuse them later. This is important because If you accidentally screw a long screw into place of a short one, the board may be damaged.
  • It is easier to disconnect the cables after a little pre-warming. At home, you can use a hair dryer or hold the device over a light bulb.
  • In order not to get confused in the location of parts, it is better to photograph them before disassembling.

Stages of replacing the original glass on an iPhone 6 as part of a module

  1. Turn off the phone.
  2. Unscrew the two bottom bolts with a Pintalobe screwdriver.
  3. Pry off the display with a plastic spatula (pick) and carefully fold it back.
  4. Use a Phillips screwdriver to unscrew the screws holding the small metal screen.
  5. Unfasten the 4 cables located under the screen and disconnect the display from the case.
  6. Unscrew the large metal screen from the old display module.
  7. Transfer all missing elements from the old module to the new one:
    • Home button;
    • Speaker;
    • Anterior chamber;
    • Light and proximity sensors;
  8. Screw a large metal screen onto the new module.
  9. Attach 4 trains.
  10. Screw on a small metal screen.
  11. Install the two bottom Pintalobe screws.

Turn on the device and check if everything works.
