Installing and uninstalling programs on Windows Mobile is a fairly simple operation, but sometimes people who have not previously used communicators with this operating system have difficulty installing new and removing unnecessary software.
In this article (with pictures!) we will look at the process of installing and uninstalling programs on a device with Windows Mobile 6.0. The computer operating system is Windows XP.

Before installing the program, you need to download it. We go to Trashbox and download the application that interests us, for example.

Downloaded. Program and game files for Windows Mobile must have the extension .cab
If the file extension is zip, rar or 7z, you should first unpack the archive; it should contain a cab file. Some programs do not need to be installed; they already have an extension .exe


Now you need to go into your phone. We will use the standard method - through Windows Explorer. It assumes that ActiveSync is already installed. Open "My Computer" and find "Mobile Device"



In fact, now the file can be dropped anywhere on the device. If you have a memory card, then you should see the “Storage Card” folder. I usually copy programs there. After copying, turn off your phone and find your file in Explorer.

Click on it and the installation will start. In most cases, a message like this will pop up. Ignore it and click Yes.

Next, the installer will ask where the program should be installed, also showing the free space.

If everything is fine, the installation will be successful, you will only need to confirm completion.

The program will now be available in the list of programs (Start - Programs)

Looking at the counter with mobile phones, it even becomes somehow boring. Try to choose something unique, because all smartphones run on the same operating system - Android. And only Apple iPhones are separated into a separate display case, where they are in splendid isolation. But, fortunately, there is an alternative to these operating systems - this Windows Mobile.

Experienced mobile device users still remember what the operating system looked like Windows Phone. In fact, in front of us was the same Windows that is installed on our computer, although not with such advanced functionality. Well, as soon as the era of smartphones with colorful capacitive screens replaced solutions with a stylus, the system itself underwent dramatic changes. And it all started with Windows 8, when users were presented with a desktop (or rather the lack thereof) filled with tiles.

Perhaps someone will remember that with the closure of Symbian, Nokia moved on to releasing the Lumia series. So, this is where the so-called tiles took root. Moreover, the Windows Phone system was replaced by Windows 8, but now the current version is Windows 10, as is the case with the full version for PC. In general, there was a lot of confusion with versions along the development path of the platform.

If Android or iOS offer application icons, and to make things less boring - widgets, then the user is faced with an unusual tiled interface. Actually, the whole concept has long no longer had the right to bear the name Windows, because the usual windows have been replaced by tiles that open a specific application. Apparently, the developers decided that the desktop with icons and program windows was too old-fashioned. Here we have tiles with an icon for mail, browser, camera, gallery, in a word, everything that was already available in other mobile systems. In order to open the mail client, just tap on the tile in the selected part of the screen and in a second you can view your mail. Save time! But many will say that such an interface is very much for an amateur.

Windows 10

Those who managed to trace the branch of development of this system were only surprised at how quickly versions of Windows Mobile changed. Today, gadget manufacturers offer the latest Windows 10, which means you can forget about everything that came before it, including support. On the other hand, all previous versions had some problems, but the manufacturer guarantees that the new ten turned out problem-free.

Among other things, in the top ten, the tiles have become translucent, and on the horizon a semblance of a desktop can be seen through them. As for positioning, the manufacturers decided to focus exclusively on synchronization with Windows 10, counting on the fact that you will buy a smartphone in conjunction with your PC, where Windows 10 is probably already installed.

It’s still very sad here: if the number of applications for iOS or Android has exceeded a million, then in the case of Windows everything is much more modest. The number of available programs is only approaching the 300 thousand mark.

And why should they? In fact, Windows Mobile is bought by those who want to play around with an unusual OS. Of course, there is also the corporate sector, but they already offer all the necessary kit for office tasks. Needless to say, the system is closed. No customization, flashing or rooting, as in many android brethren. Otherwise, if you want to try out a new operating system that offers out of the box everything the same as its competitors, you can safely buy devices based on this system, especially since their hardware is usually quite good. And the axis is promising, judging by the fact that it is still being promoted, despite its low popularity among ordinary users.

Windows 10 Mobile is a version of the Windows 10 OS for mobile devices with a screen diagonal of up to nine inches. The OS is focused on synchronizing with the PC version of Windows and broader synchronization of content, "universal" applications, the ability to connect devices to an external display and use your smartphone as a PC with an interface that supports mouse and keyboard. Smartphones running Windows Phone 8.1 could be upgraded to Windows 10 Mobile.

Hardware Requirements

The system resource requirements are as follows: 32 MB Flash ROM, RAM capacity – 32 MB. Installing Android applications on Windows Mobile

Microsoft was developing the project Astoria, which could enable users to install applications on Windows 10 Mobile, originally developed for the Android OS. However, in the end, work on the project was stopped, so at the moment it is impossible to install and run Android programs on smartphones running Windows Mobile.
