What is the oldest tank in wot. What are the best tanks in World of Tanks? "Saint-Chamond" from the museum in Saumur

The tank, which was born just over 100 years ago, made an indelible effect on the enemy, but soon, instead of running away from it, everyone and everyone began to shoot at it. It turned out that steel monsters are not so invulnerable, and therefore it would be nice to hide them from the enemy. Since then, the art of camouflaging tanks has come a long way, and reference books and encyclopedias can be devoted to its study.

We will focus on cases of the most unimaginable camouflage and “anti-camouflage” designed to attract attention, as well as options for using tanks as art objects - in general, we will show cars that look unusual.

"Saint-Chamond" from the museum in Saumur

The photo, taken in 2017, shows the oldest tank in the world that can move independently. It clearly shows all the future elements of French camouflage: a bright multi-color scheme, a unit designation in the form of a card suit and the almost obligatory proper name - “Flower of Love”. However, at that time it was almost universal - romance was supposed to somehow brighten up the unbearable life of the first tankers.

Desert "Matilda"

A well-recognized camouflage scheme for British World War II tanks was this one, used in North Africa. Moreover, the blue-blue stripes were again remembered primarily on the Matildas.

Type 90 (Japan)

A separate direction in the development of camouflage has always been the development of winter patterns “under the snow”. If in the war era, when the life of a vehicle in battle was measured in days and hours, such camouflage could be applied directly at the factory, then in peacetime it is usually of a temporary nature, like this Japanese main battle tank Type 90.

"Leopard" 2A4

Panzer 68 (Pz 68)

This Swiss Panzer 68 (Pz 68) from the exhibition of the Swiss military museum in Full is dazzlingly good, but it is fraught with one danger: if you look at it without looking away for more than ten seconds, you can simply lose orientation in space and break your forehead on something.

"Leopard" 2A6 of the Netherlands Army

Another amazing tank. In June 2008, before the start of the European Football Championship, one of the Leopards 2A6 of the Dutch army was painted in the national bright orange color and equipped with the inscription “Trots op onze jongens” (“We are proud of our guys”). However, the players did not give a reason for pride, losing sensationally to the Russian national team.

Strv 103

The Swedes can be proud: no one in the world has had or has such crazy-turreted tanks. But the stunning effect can be enhanced? This Strv 103 carries the livery of the kingdom's national flag.

The main thing in the game is, obviously, the tanks. Historical, which existed and fought on different continents of the world, reliable paper models and bits of projects that have already been completed and thought out by the developers, each individual vehicle in the World of Tanks has its own, special and unique history. And, as they say, for every product there is a merchant, so in our game for every tank there is someone who can call it his favorite!

Well, I think it’s clear here that each player decides for himself which one is the best for him in the game, but we will try to tell you which ones are the most attractive, which are very pleasant to play, and easier/more accessible to play.

As you know, in our game there are X levels of equipment and at each level there are/are different heroes. In parallel with how bending tanks will be covered, we will also talk about the vehicles that are most popular on the World of Tanks servers. At each level we will highlight 3 cars (there will be exceptions) that stand out the most + a bonus that seems the most fun, as the players call it.
Although there are 10 levels in the game, we will start the review with tanks of the 5th level, since up to this level there are still frivolous vehicles, a sandbox, as most players like to call levels up to the 5th.

Level 5

At level V, there are several contenders for the title of best tank, and they are all Soviet.
Firstly, let's note the most popular for the game, not counting the first levels - this is the Soviet power of the KV-1. All-round armor, versatile guns, and of course, the historical component, gave this tank such a reputation! Every player, especially the older generation, considers it their duty to pump out this car.

Secondly, this is the T-34 - with no less rich history, compared to the KV-1, one of the best tanks of the war, which changed its course. What makes it so popular? Its hole-piercing guns are 57 mm ZiS-4, with high penetration but low damage. The two most popular branches in the game are the Soviet ST and TT, and through them, two great tanks are located at 5 levels: the T-34 and the KV-1.

And the third, only for the elite KV-220. It has excellent all-round armor, which is extremely difficult for level 5 guns to take, and even some sixes feel the problem of penetrating this vehicle, plus its preferential battle level! All this makes this tank a real gem, but it is very difficult to obtain.

The bonus on the 5s is the T67 - an American tank destroyer that does not feel like a tank destroyer. Excellent speed, stealth, high penetration and low silhouette allow you to bend over your classmates, and in battles at the bottom of the list, with the help of gold, not to feel suffering!

Level 6

At level VI, the three tanks have all three STs - one Soviet and two British.
Let's start with a legend that everyone, young and old, knows; almost every city has a monument to this significant T-34-85 tank.
The average USSR is a universal fighter on the battlefield; its excellent weapon with good AP penetration and comfortable gold for combat against 8-kilometers, accuracy and mobility make this tank popular. Of course, we should not forget that this tank is being pumped up because of its huge combat history, and the fact that it comes next after the T-34, but this does not make it any less excellent.

The second is the British Cromwell, a technique for real extras. Unlike the 34-85, the Cromwell does not have armor, but at the same time its maximum speed and cannon, coupled with stealth, allow it to achieve excellent results that will surprise even the driver himself.

And the third, new to World of Tanks - Sherman Firefly. One of the most successful models of British tank building, with the legendary OQF 17-pdr Gun Mk. VII, in which you can fight without gold even at the bottom of the list, even against 8 levels.
The bonus on 6s is the legend of the broads - KV-2. It is both for bending and for fun. His duda 152 mm M-10 with an alpha high explosive of 900 points allows him to fight even with X levels (!!!), where one shot at a Waffenträger auf E 100, or other cardboard machines, can deprive half of the HP.

7th level

Level 7, according to players, is the most balanced, so choosing the top three here is very difficult.
The first, or rather the first ones, are IS/IS-2/IS-2. It is impossible to single out one of these machines, because they are almost identical, so we will add all three units to this list. The IS is the most famous tank, one of the 10 most popular tanks in World of Tanks. Its advantages are the D-25T with alpha from 390, mobility, turret armor. In the TOP, these vehicles do battle, distributing “Soviet henchmen”, and at the bottom of the list we play PT, imagining that you are an SU-122-44, which is also fighting with 9 levels with the same weapon.

The second unit is the German Tiger I. The German TT, which fought in World War II and has a rich history, is implemented superbly in the game. 1500 hit points, 8.8 cm Kw.K gun. 43 L/71 with 203mm breakdown, 240 alpha and with a DPM of 2000 points per minute, which is comfortable, pleasant and interesting to play. At the top of the list, the Tiger is a thunderstorm of enemies, punching through everyone, dismantling anyone with DPM, and at the bottom of the list we play PT, alternating BB with gold.

The third vehicle is the American heavy T29. If the 29 is from the mound, then even the 9th level will not be able to break through it the first time. The tank has strengths, but also has pain points. Its balance and application on the battlefield make it a great machine that you'll want to play again and again.

The bonus is the unit hated by everyone - a flea, a bug, a mosquito, a Gatling gun - this is a German tank destroyer E-25. An inconspicuous cart that causes a lot of problems for opponents, especially blind ones like Soviet TTs. Mosquito bites of 150 points in 3 seconds will kill anyone who comes under the gun of this machine. Well, if you end up in an E-shek platoon, if you are in a field without cover and they are targeting you, expect trouble. The enormous popularity of the vehicle contributed to its withdrawal from sale, but there were no fewer of them in battles.

Tier 7 is so diverse that I would like to mention at least five more vehicles - these are the T-34-1, T71, M41 Walker Bulldog, LTTB and Spähpanzer SP I C. We won’t talk about them, we’ll just note that they are also worthy be on this list.

Level 8

We're getting to the top. Level VIII is no longer a sandbox. At these levels there is a global map, fortified areas and company battles.
The first tank at level 8 will be the IS-3. A vehicle that is suitable for all of the above battles, and also fills the random pool. Frontal armor of the hull and turret, the presence of bulwarks, a good gun, mobility and a low silhouette are the key to the success of the vehicle.

The second one is FCM 50t. The vehicle is not for everyone, as the huge hull and lack of armor make playing on the tank very difficult for beginners, but experienced players show excellent results on the tank, setting damage records over and over again. Tanks with a preferential combat level and an excellent 212 penetration gun, so suffering on this vehicle is excluded. An analogue of this car can be offered by another Frenchman - AMX Chasseur de chars. An even less armored vehicle, which bursts from land mines and does not have a preferential level, but has a high camouflage coefficient and the highest maximum speed at level VII among STs due to the Maybach HL 295 F engine of 1200 horsepower.

The third is another Frenchman, also a frequent guest in fortifications, companies and on the main battery - AMX 50100. A machine that can pick up any classmate in one drum and quickly escape from the scene of a crime - that’s its feature. The high penetration and alpha of 300 for each bullet is what sets the drum against all its enemies. But the most difficult thing is to change the CD of the drum at 50 seconds, when it becomes defenseless meat for the enemy. Another weak point is the lack of armor, but this is typical for all vehicles from the French branch.

Bonus for VIII, we note two vehicles - the British tank destroyer Charioteer and the Japanese medium STA 1. Both tanks are secretive samurai who conduct their battle from the shadows, supporting their butting allies. High CTA penetration and the excellent Chariothir 105 mm AT Gun L7 with 268 mm are the swords of these tanks, with which they pierce their opponents, even playing at the bottom of the list.
Another contender is the IS-6. Tanks that have become one of the most popular premium tanks in the game, having the same D-25T tank, armor and preferential combat level.

Level 9

A level 9 imba is considered to be an upgraded VK 45.02 (P) Ausf. B, or alpha sneaker, which was brought back to life the last couple of patches ago, increasing the thickness of the armor. Now VK 45.02 (P) Ausf. B tanks even X-tier tank destroyers, sometimes even their gold shells. To push the direction, or to restrain it, to be the first at the forefront of the attack - this is the real calling for this tank! Of course, it still has weak sides and enemy artillery, but these are small disadvantages compared to its advantage. Plus, the sneaker is also mobile, considering its weight.

The second copy is the German medium E 50. Another universal fighter who can tank at the right time and go to another part of the map. Having on board a cannon with German precision and high penetration, playing the epis, as it is called, becomes a pleasure. The E 50 can travel with allied STs, or be a second-line tank, moving with allied TTs. Who to be in battle is a choice only for the player, but with huge potential, like on the E 50, you definitely won’t have to suffer.

The third machine is M103. All American TTs are famous for their turret heads, and the 103 is no exception. Tanking even TOP guns with huge penetrations? It's very easy! An American can hold back even against multiple allies, or play cat and mouse with other opponents if the map allows. It is perfectly balanced, so you won't have to suffer on the M103.

The bonus on IX is the Soviet ST T-54. No matter how its turret was nerfed, no matter how its hull armor was changed, the 54 remains an excellent CT, one of the most popular at its level. Speed, mobility, low silhouette and the fact that the tank can forgive due to the armor provided - all this makes the vehicle so popular.

Level 10

The Xth level is the crown of each branch, the result of each nation. Each tank at this level has its own features, its own directions. Each has good characteristics. Of course, there are guns like the Waffenträger auf E 100, which will soon be replaced, or an ART-SAU, which does not allow you to relax normally in battle, as well as the presence of PT 10 with huge broads.
10s are the level of extremes. There are also drum TTs, there are also slow cast iron walls such as Maus and E-100, and there are also versatile STs. Therefore, each player must choose for himself which tanks are interesting to him and to single out one of the others would not be correct, at least.

So, dear friends. This was only the opinion of one person, and not the crowd, because, as mentioned earlier, it depends on taste and color. But, undoubtedly, those provided in this list can bend, can become the best, but only in the hands of the right player.
And that is all! Go to World of Tanks and choose your own, the best in the game, and prove that it is truly the best! Good luck on the battlefields of the World of Tanks!

There are slightly fewer Soviet vehicles in World of Tanks than German ones, but there are also a lot of them. There are seven

Heavy tanks

But first it’s worth saying a few words about T-28, which many players call “Tram” due to its length. This is a medium tank (heavy ones start from the fifth), which is equipped with a good gun with a penetration of 112 mm with a regular shell and excellent accuracy (0.34). The large size and cardboard armor force you to keep a respectful distance from the enemy and try to stay out of his sight as little as possible. But good dynamics allow you to quickly change direction.

On the fifth level is KV-1, which is already a heavy tank. Its armor is indeed very good: the thickness of the sides and forehead of the hull reaches 75 mm, while the all-round armor of the turret is generally 110 mm. The KV-1 easily penetrates the driver's hatch, but it can only be targeted at close range. Moreover, the diamond greatly increases the armor given, so it must be constantly used. A great advantage is also decent damage per minute (1900 units). Unfortunately, the KV-1 is passed by most players when they first get acquainted with the game, so it is in many ways an underrated vehicle.

At the sixth level there is a division between branches, so you can choose from three heavy Soviet tanks at once. First, perhaps, it is worth mentioning KV-2, which is not included in a full-fledged branch, but from it you can open level seven artillery. The KV-2 is sometimes called a “heavy tank without a level,” and in a sense this is true. The fact is that you can install a very powerful M-10 high-explosive bomb with a caliber of 152 mm on it. The high-explosive shells of this weapon remove 200-300 HP from even well-armored level eight enemies. Single-level tanks can often be sent to the hangar with one hit. Such power is balanced by simply gigantic dispersion, long reload time and long mixing. Even more famous KV-1S, which received the nickname "Kvass". This tank combines good dynamics, weak but ricochet armor and a very powerful weapon. A regular projectile penetrates 175 mm and deals 390 damage. The sub-caliber is capable of penetrating 217 mm. Among the tank's shortcomings, it should be noted the poor location of the tanks in the forehead and poor visibility. But this is more than offset by the huge one-time damage. Playing Kvass is easy and simple: you need to roll out after a long reload and exchange with the enemy.

T-150, perhaps most similar to the KV-1: the armor of the forehead and sides of the hull has increased to 90 mm, which allows the effective use of a diamond, as on the fifth level. The top gun has a one-time damage of 300 units, but reloads faster than the KV-1S. Mobility is somewhat worse, but this is the price to pay for good armor. In general, the T-150 is a classic heavy tank without any bright features, so it looks somewhat faded compared to the KV-2 and KV-1S.

Its continuation at the seventh level is KV-3. The front armor of the hull increased to 120 mm, the thickness of the sides remained the same. The weak point in the frontal projection is the large mask. The upper and lower parts have a rounded shape, but it penetrates into the area near the gun without any problems. The gun can be supplied from the T-150 or a slightly improved version of the gun found on the KV-1S (only reloading has improved). The KV-3 is a good tank, but in the modern realities of the game, when everything is decided by dynamics and a powerful weapon, it looks somewhat outdated.

Its analogue from another branch is IP, which is similar in appearance to the KV-1S. The gun is the same, but the reload speed has increased significantly. One of the shortcomings is poor visibility, but the booking has improved noticeably. The IS has 120 mm in the forehead; even tanks at a higher level may not penetrate the upper frontal part. But the “shelf” above it, which has no slope, is vulnerable. The dynamics have decreased, but not very much. Penetration of 175 mm is often not enough against level nine vehicles, but one-time damage of 390 units is still the best at the level, except for land mines.

And on the eighth level of this branch there is the famous IS-3, which is an excellent tank for close and medium range combat. The armor may not make an impression at first, for example, the front of the hull is only 110 mm. But Soviet engineers used several tricks. Firstly, the forehead of the hull is made in the shape of a “pike nose”, which significantly increases the reduced armor and increases the chance of ricochet. Secondly, above the tracks there are bulwarks, which are armor with a strong slope and screens. Sometimes the bulwark does not penetrate even a level ten tank destroyer. The forehead of the streamlined tower is also a very strong point. But the roof of the tower, which is only 30 mm thick, is easily broken through. The top gun penetrates 225 mm with a regular shell, and the one-time damage remains unchanged (390 units). But the accuracy has improved noticeably. The IS-3 also has good dynamics for a heavy tank, but the visibility remains one of the worst at the level (350 meters). The IS-3 is not only an excellent tank for random battles; in Team Battles it often forms the basis of a strike group.

KV-4, which is on the eighth level in another branch of heavy Soviet vehicles, is not such a wonderful machine. Its main problem is its large size and weak dynamics, which make it an easy target on open maps. Thick armor only saves you from enemies of the same level; tanks of a higher level can penetrate it without any problems. The weak point of the KV-4 is its large turret, which a skilled enemy can penetrate even with a not very powerful gun.

A further continuation of IS-3 in another branch is IS-8, which is already at the ninth level. But it is frankly poorly armored for a heavy tank. Although the forehead of the hull has the shape of a “pike nose”, its thickness is 120 mm, which is only 10 mm more compared to the IS-3. The sides generally became thinner (80 mm). The only strong place is the forehead of the tower, but the roof of the tower is still easily broken through. But the maximum speed has noticeably improved (50 km/h), which allows you to quickly change direction if necessary. The gun is one of the best: a regular shell penetrates 258 mm of armor, a cumulative shell penetrates 340 mm, and the one-time damage is 440 units.

An analogue from another branch of heavy Soviet tanks is ST-1. His weapon is the same, only the reload speed and aiming speed are slightly worse. But the cardinal differences lie in the booking. The ST-1 is a real heavy tank: the thickness of the sides and front of the hull is 140 mm, which makes the diamond shape extremely effective. The forehead of the turret is not penetrated even by cumulative shells, while the gun moves down 8 degrees, so playing on hilly terrain is a pleasure. The dynamics are, of course, low, but they are noticeably better compared to the KV-4.

A somewhat strange situation has developed with the top Soviet heavy tanks. On the one hand, a large number of players have them, on the other hand, they are often criticized. IS-4, which opens with ST-1, at first glance, is distinguished by good armor, like its predecessor. But while the ST-1’s turret roof is virtually impenetrable, the IS-4’s is only 30 mm thick. The lower frontal part is also easy to sew. U IS-7, which opens with the IS-8, the weak point is the gun: it has an extremely long aiming time (3.4 seconds), and penetration with a conventional projectile is only 250 mm. In general, these are not the worst vehicles at their level, but there are more interesting tanks. Although it is worth noting that good armor forgives many mistakes, so the IS-4 and IS-7 are well suited for beginners who are leveling up their first branch in World of Tanks.

Medium tanks

Now we will look at medium Soviet tanks, of which there are also two branches, their division occurs at the sixth level, and at the fifth there is the famous T-34. This is a well-balanced vehicle with excellent dynamics and a relatively strong turret. The gun has low one-time damage (85 units), but the damage per minute is approximately 2200 units. The only problem is that due to the high rate of fire, the gun does not have time to fully close, and this creates serious problems when shooting at long distances. The relatively new line consists mostly of vehicles with a rear turret. These are quite unusual tanks that involve a unique gameplay, so we will look at them later, and now we will focus on the “old” branch of Soviet tanks.

It starts with T-34-85. This is a further development of the T-34: the dynamics remained approximately the same, but the turret forehead became even stronger. The rounded shape of the gun mantlet allows the T-34-85 to often fend off shells and tanks at a higher level if played through the turret. Unfortunately, this is not so easy to do due to not the best vertical aiming angles (the gun goes down 7 degrees). The top gun penetrates 144 mm with a regular shell and deals 180 damage per shot. These are good indicators for the sixth level; we are also pleased with the good accuracy (0.37) and acceptable convergence (2.3 seconds). It’s not for nothing that the T-34-85 is considered one of the best vehicles at the sixth level; it is a universal tank that can shine, shoot from afar, and act aggressively on the first line.

T-43, which inherited the gun from its predecessor. Its characteristics are identical, only the reload speed has increased. Of course, 144 mm is already not enough for the seventh level; some tanks of the ninth level will be difficult to penetrate even into the side. Sub-caliber ones with a penetration of 194 mm may also not be enough. But the T-43 is distinguished by its small size, which means a high stealth coefficient, and good dynamics. But still, this is not the best tank at its level; its weak weapon does not allow it to deal much damage in high-level battles.

It is worth mentioning separately KV-13, which is also on the seventh level and is a transitional link between medium and heavy tanks. Externally, it is very similar to the T-43, but the armor is noticeably better. The upper frontal part is 120 mm thick and is located at a good angle. A tank shell at a higher level can also ricochet off it. The dynamics, when compared with the T-43, did not suffer much, and the visibility was slightly reduced. Overall, the KV-13 is a very interesting machine. Ricochet armor combined with good dynamics allows you to act aggressively.

Next comes T-44, the favorite tank of the Serb himself and the famous “Helicopter”, which was a real imbue when introduced into the game. But now it is a well-balanced car. The penetration of the top LB-1 gun is only 175 mm with a conventional shell, which is almost the lowest figure at the level. Accuracy (0.35) is not bad, but stabilization on the move leaves much to be desired. But the T-44 boasts good dynamics and a low silhouette; its camouflage is one of the best among tier 8 medium tanks. By the way, you can install a weapon with a one-time damage of 390 units, but this is not recommended. Its damage per minute is simply terrible, and it takes forever to come down. Overall, the T-44 is a good tank, but low penetration can make life very difficult.

But T-54 is perhaps the best tier 9 medium tank. From the T-44 it inherited a low silhouette and good dynamics, while the armor was noticeably improved. The thickness of the upper frontal part is 120 mm at a good angle, the turret has a streamlined shape, which greatly increases the armor provided. Unfortunately, she was heavily nerfed in one of the patches. If before the T-54 practically did not penetrate the front of the tower, now this happens not so rarely. The top-end D-10T2S gun has a penetration of only 201 mm with a conventional shell, but premium cumulative ones penetrate as much as 330 mm! If you don’t skimp on silver and constantly use them, you can easily penetrate even heavy tanks of the tenth level directly in the forehead.

At level ten, the T-54 unlocks two tanks at once: T-62A And About. 140. Only very good players will notice the differences between them. At Ob. 140 is 1 degree better at downward vertical aiming angles, but the roof of the tower is often breached. The T-62A has 0.1 better accuracy and aiming, but slightly worse stabilization on the move. But these are such small differences that the average player is unlikely to notice them. In general, we can say that the T-62A is a little better suited for positional firefights, while the Ob. 140 – for dynamic play.

About. 140

Alternative branch starts with A-43, which at the sixth level occupies a middle position between a medium and light tank. It can be successfully driven actively, this is facilitated by both a high maximum speed (55 km/h) and good power-to-weight ratio (18.5 hp per ton). But the guns came from level five, and poor elevation angles make playing on hilly terrain simply impossible. There is no need to talk about reservations, there are practically none.

From the seventh level, vehicles with a rear-mounted turret begin. In reality, such projects were designed to provide better protection for the crew, but in the game the rear location of the turret is a disadvantage, and it is difficult to extract anything positive from it. At the seventh level of the alternative branch of Soviet medium tanks is A-44. The rear position of the turret simply means terrible vertical aiming angles (this also applies to further tanks in the branch). The engine is located in the front, so the tank often burns. The upper frontal part and the forehead of the turret can withstand blows well, although the lower frontal part can also be penetrated by tanks at a lower level without much difficulty. Only a narrow strip has the thickness of 150 mm stated in the specifications. It’s worth mentioning separately about the A-44 gun; it evokes extremely controversial feelings. This is a gun with a T-150, which penetrates 165 mm with a regular projectile and deals as much as 300 units of one-time damage. For a level seven medium tank, such one-time damage is simply enormous. But the aiming time is 3.4 seconds, which, with terrible accuracy (0.45), makes long-range shooting almost useless. But even in close combat this creates serious problems; even when firing almost point-blank, a projectile can fly off, for example, into a caterpillar. You have to stop and move, and this almost always means taking damage. It’s not for nothing that the A-44 is considered a real “cactus” by many players.

On the eighth level is About. 416. The turret is still located in the rear of the hull, and it has limited rotation angles (75 degrees in both directions), so spinning the enemy and causing damage to him can be difficult. But Ob. 416 are two big pluses. Firstly, it has a very low silhouette, so camouflage is even better than the T-44. Secondly, a powerful weapon, which is in many ways similar to the one on the T-54. Cumulative projectiles with a penetration of 330 mm are available, and one-time damage is 320 units. And this is at the eighth level. But the turret with limited rotation makes it very difficult to play on this tank, Ob. The 416 doesn't perform well in dynamic firefights, although it can be used effectively from disguise.

About. 416

Next comes About. 430 Option II, whose turret rotates 90 degrees in both directions, this is enough for most situations. The elevation angles are still terrible, but the armor has noticeably improved. If you hide the lower frontal part or even the entire body, you can tank well. You don’t have to install a top-end gun: its reload speed, accuracy and aiming speed are worse, and penetration with a conventional shell is only 18 mm higher. At the same time, cumulative ammunition with a penetration of 330 mm is available on the stock gun.

About. 430, whose turret is located in the middle of the hull, like medium tanks from another branch. Unfortunately, he loses in comparison with Ob. 140 and T-62A. At Ob. 430 has worse mobility, rate of fire, aiming speed and stabilization on the move. This should be compensated for by a low silhouette and improved armor, but in practice all three tanks can easily penetrate the hull; the difference of 20 mm in the thickness of the upper frontal part does not play a special role. About. 430 is a little lower, but just a little, it doesn’t give much advantage. Therefore Ob. 430 is rarely seen in battles: it is worse than its Soviet counterparts, and it is pumped through tanks with a rear turret, which require a special approach. There are persistent rumors that it is planned to be abolished in the future.

About. 430

Tank destroyer

The review of Soviet tank destroyers is probably worth starting from the fourth level, SU-85B many players go through it when they first get acquainted with the game, so they cannot appreciate all its advantages. Its biggest advantage is its top gun, which can penetrate as much as 130 mm of armor with a regular shell. Premium sabots can already penetrate 170 mm, but they are simply not needed. One-time damage is 160 units. The second big advantage is the visibility of 390 meters. The accuracy (0.38) is not the best, but it is enough for most situations. All this is balanced by poor stabilization on the move, lack of armor (there is only 25 mm in the forehead, and this only applies to the upper frontal part; the wheelhouse is even worse protected) and the presence of a muzzle brake, which in the realities of the game means strong unmasking after a shot. You have to play carefully.

Next comes SU-85. The visibility of 280 meters can be a little shocking, which makes this tank destroyer very “blind”. In open areas without allied illumination, the SU-85 can be simply defenseless. The top gun is similar to that installed on the T-34-85 and T-43, only the rate of fire differs. The small size is also pleasing; the SU-85 perfectly copes with the role of an “ambush sniper”. The thickness of the forehead is only 45 mm, but the armor is located at a good angle, so that opponents at a lower level often do not penetrate it.

SU-100, which is on the sixth level, is a logical continuation of the SU-85. The visibility has increased to 350 meters, and the thickness of the forehead reaches 75 mm. Mobility remained at the same level, as did the size. There are two weapons available to choose from. One has a one-time damage of 390 units, but takes a long time to come down, while the other deals an average of 250 units of damage per shot, but comes down much faster. The penetration rate of a conventional shell for both guns is 175 mm. Overall, the SU-100 is a worthy tank destroyer at its level. The choice of tactics largely depends on the weapon. The fact that it has high one-time damage makes the SU-100 a good support vehicle, while the other gun is more suitable for ambush tactics.

At the seventh level, a division into two branches occurs. We will start the review with the one that leads to the famous and very popular in random battles Ob. 268. At the seventh level of this branch there is SU-152, which is made on the basis of the KV-1. This means very weak armor, although the gun mantlet may not be able to penetrate even Tier 9 tanks. But this is the only strong point for this tank destroyer. But it has a low silhouette, that is, its stealth factor is simply excellent. There is also a choice between two weapons. The top one has very low penetration for a level seven tank destroyer: only 175 mm for a regular projectile. But it has high both one-time damage (390 units) and damage per minute (more than 3000 units!). But you can also play with a stock land mine; cumulative shells with a penetration of 250 mm and one-time damage of 700 units are a formidable weapon.

On the eighth level there is the famous ISU-152. From its predecessor, it inherited weak armor (except for the almost impenetrable gun mantlet) and a low silhouette. But ISU-152 is famous for its top gun BL-10, which can penetrate 286 mm with a regular shell, and the one-time damage is 750 units. This is the most penetrating and powerful weapon at level eight. The price to pay for such power is long aiming times, mediocre accuracy, and low damage per minute. But even a few effective shots from the BL-10 can radically change the course of the battle.

ISU-152

About. 704, which is located on the ninth level, is equipped with exactly the same weapon, but with improved accuracy, aiming speed and reloading. The armor has also become better: although the stated figures are not amazing (for example, the thickness of the front of the hull is 120 mm), the armor is located at rational angles, which greatly increases the chance of a ricochet; the gun mantlet remains just as impenetrable. Mobility has noticeably improved, allowing you to change flanks faster. Overall, Ob. The 704 is a decent machine for its level.

About. 704

Finally ends the thread About. 268, which is made on the basis of the IS-8: the forehead of the hull is also made in the shape of a “pike nose”. Overall, Ob. 268 is distinguished by very ricochet armor: other tank destroyers often cannot penetrate it. On the other hand, there are situations when a given tank destroyer can easily be penetrated by Tier 8 vehicles. The one-time damage is still 750 units, and penetration by a regular projectile has increased to 303 mm. The cumulative one is generally capable of penetrating 395 mm of armor. By the standards of Soviet machines, the accuracy is also excellent (0.33). About. 268 is a universal vehicle: with its low silhouette, it can successfully play the role of an “ambush sniper,” and its rebound armor allows it, in some cases, to lead an attack and push through flanks. In general, the branch of Soviet tank destroyers that leads to Ob. 268, is extremely popular in random battles. For many players, this is the first branch they upgrade in World of Tanks. Good stealth and high one-time damage make playing on these machines very comfortable.

About. 268

The same cannot be said about the alternative branch; most players believe that it consists almost entirely of real “cacti”. But first things first.

On the seventh level is SU-100M1, which is distinguished by good dynamics and an accurate weapon. One-time damage is 250 units, penetration with a regular projectile is 175 mm. This tank destroyer is poorly armored, although the armor is located at rational angles. It is also very difficult to penetrate the gun mask. A serious problem on the SU-100M1 is weak angles of both vertical and horizontal aiming. This greatly complicates the game; from many positions it is simply impossible to shoot normally, since the gun does not go down at all.

This also applies SU-101, level eight cars. This tank destroyer's gun moves down only 2 degrees. Even a small bump results in the gun pointing to the sky; on hilly terrain you have to expose your entire body for a shot and expose yourself greatly. Another serious disadvantage is the low penetration of a top-end gun by a conventional shell (only 219 mm), and this is for a level eight tank destroyer! We often have to use cumulative ones, which penetrate 330 mm. One-time damage is only 320 units. The good dynamics are good (the power density is almost 20 hp), but this tank destroyer has much more disadvantages.

SU-101

Next comes SU-122-54, which was created on the basis of the T-54 medium tank. From him, this tank destroyer received good mobility and a low silhouette. The gun is similar to that installed on the IS-8 and ST-1: 258 mm of penetration with a conventional projectile, and one-time damage is 440 units. For heavy tanks these are good indicators, but for a tier 9 tank destroyer this is frankly not enough. The gun's accuracy is quite good (0.35), but stabilization on the move leaves much to be desired, so playing actively is not very good: you have to stop and move to shoot, and weak armor rarely deflects shells.

SU-122-54

Finally, on the tenth level is About. 263. This is a largely underrated machine that most players simply don’t get the hang of, so Ob. 263 is rarely seen in battles. Although this tank destroyer has several big advantages. Firstly, good dynamics. Secondly, decent frontal armor. Even single-level tank destroyers often cannot penetrate this vehicle into the wheelhouse. But the lower frontal part is thin, so it breaks through with eighth levels. Premium shells can also be used to easily sew a gun mantlet, behind which there is no main armor. The sides, which are only 80 mm thick, are also vulnerable. However, Ob. 263 has a low silhouette, which, combined with good mobility, allows you to take comfortable positions at the beginning of the battle and fire unnoticed.

About. 263

The artillery branch of the Soviet nation turned out to be somewhat contradictory. It is worth noting SU-26, which is only on the third level, but stands out due to its 360-degree rotating cabin. Once upon a time, this self-propelled gun was a real imbo, but after several nerfs it turned into just a machine that is comfortable to play on. Next comes SU-5, which no longer has a wheelhouse with full rotation, but the howitzer is capable of throwing shells even over high obstacles, but the landmines fly slowly, and the firing range is very limited. The fifth level car is, in general, passable. And from the sixth level, the concept of Soviet self-propelled guns changes noticeably. Next come vehicles with huge one-time damage, which is compensated by long aiming, long reloads and simply terrible accuracy. This is aggravated by poor horizontal aiming angles. But on the tenth level it is About. 261, which shoots accurately (0.66), and also shoots quickly (6.5 seconds). Thus, the branch turned out to be contradictory; when moving to the next level, you will have to get used to the greatly changed characteristics.

About. 261

Light tanks

Separately, it is worth mentioning light tanks. There is no full-fledged branch up to the eighth level, although it is planned. On the sixth level is MT-25, which long ago replaced the T-50-2. For many players, the latter was the favorite firefly in the game, but the developers removed it for being too “motorcycle-like” (that’s the word Serb used). The MT-25 has recently been greatly improved in dynamic characteristics, so that it is in many ways similar to the T-50-2. In general, the MT-25 is a good firefly at the sixth level, it’s a pity that at the moment there is no continuation of the branch. With the MT-25 you can only open the KV-13.

Hello, dear friends. In the world of online games, all kinds of simulators have long occupied a significant place, but, perhaps, no simulator of driving a car, train, plane or ship can compare with a tank simulator. Because it’s one thing to just plow roads, seas or clouds, and quite another thing to also take some serious hits. Our thoughts today are intended to establish the best tank in World of Tanks, since it was this brainchild of Belarusian developers that received the most attention and love from fans of online toys: there are more than a million subscribers in RuNet alone.

From this article you will learn:

Where to run, what to look at?

“World of Tanks” is a whole world because the number of models in the game is slightly less than five hundred. In other words, the question of choice can confuse an experienced player, and a beginner can even lose consciousness for several days. It’s good that there is such an invention of mankind as classification, and equipment in WoT is grouped, firstly, by nations (Soviet, German, British, American, French, Chinese and Japanese), and secondly, by type of weapons and armor (light, medium, heavy, tank destroyers and self-propelled guns). You can also divide all the tanks available in the game according to the method the player receives them into regular (which are purchased for game currency), premium (here, of course, you can’t do without investing real money) and gift or promotional (free tanks given for completing certain tasks or participation in promotions).

The question about the “best” tank is, perhaps, incorrect - tanks are still different types, and arguing about what is better to play on - heavy or PT - is the same as comparing a table with a cabinet. Different models are designed for different tasks, so we will look at several machines that can be considered the best in their group.

What to strive for?

It's easy to say that development should be based on the player's preferences. Which, in general, is quite logical - some people like to act as a “firefly”, others like to sit in ambush. But you can also shine and hide in different ways, so the question of which tank to buy so as not to be disappointed in the future is a very personal question. Of course, you can read guides (which is absolutely necessary if you don’t want to constantly lose), but in order to choose the right development branch, you must first decide what you want to get in the end. Therefore, we will start from the end and make a short review of the most popular and effective Tier 10 tanks.

Heavy tanks

The main task of heavy tanks is to “squeeze out” the front. And for this they must be very thick in armor and quite serious in damage. In short, heavy tanks “tank”, that is, they push right through. Of course, it’s better not to expose yourself to attack, because even the strongest armor can be found with a projectile that will penetrate it very well. And yet, it is heavy tanks that are best suited for those who like an aggressive playing style. You can tank in different ways - from the tower, from the side, in a diamond, reverse diamond, etc. Which tactic to choose depends on many things. For example, the German “Tiger” is better, let’s say, in the second line, because its heavy armor is quite average, but it hits well. On the other hand, the Tiger can quite successfully tank in the first line, if the opponents are mainly his classmates.

So which ones should you download? We settled on two models, and we can’t choose which one is better, so we’ll tell you about both.

IS-7. Soviet. Once upon a time it was just a super-heavy tank, at the moment the developers have nerfed it a little (editor's note, lowered the performance), but it is still among the top best heavy tanks. very cool, runs pretty fast. The armor, however, is mediocre, but due to the angles of the armor it often ricochets, and even if they aim at you from the side, they can hit the bulwark. If you are riding an IS-7, try not to turn your rear towards the enemy - such a hit will cause the tank to burn with a clear flame.

E-100. This is a serious German heavy, with very cool armor and, accordingly, rather weak damage. You are given a choice of two guns, which differ in terms of rate of fire, armor-piercing and damage. Large and slow, so it is a good target for artillery, but due to its size it can, for example, penetrate the same IS-7 head-on. A terrible tank, in general. They are afraid of him. In addition, he has as much as 2700, and if you place the tank in a diamond shape, then ricochets and non-penetration often occur even in NLD (editor's note, lower frontal part).

Medium tanks

They are not designed to hold damage. Their job is to enter from the rear or flank, inflict constant (albeit small) damage and, if possible, work with lamps. Medium tanks do not have as much armor as heavy tanks, but they are much more mobile, and due to the constant opportunity to shoot, they often deal more damage during the battle as a whole than heavy tanks.

The living embodiment of everything said about the “middle peasants” above is the T-62A tank. The main advantage of the T-62A is the accuracy and rate of fire of the gun, especially if the crew is well-trained. In skillful hands, this tank allows you to keep the enemy’s vehicle on the gullet for the entire battle, and what’s more, you can stop three noobs around the corner (especially if they don’t realize that they can attack at the same time, they crawl out one by one, and you give them splashes, because the speed recharging allows).

Plus, in its development branch there are models that are easy to master even for a beginner (for example, the legendary T-34, T-34-85 and A-44).

Light tanks

Let's say right away that if you are a beginner player, your first tank (as part of your aspiration and development) should in no case be easy. It's very difficult. Firstly, their armor is naturally made of paper (with the exception of the French sand armor, which ricochets strongly, but crawls like turtles). Secondly, single damage. It would seem, why are they needed at all?

We need it, we need it! Light tanks also have plenty of goodies. Firstly, they are the most maneuverable in the game, hence the conclusion - “first catch up, then beat them.” So if you turn your head 360 degrees and reel in on time, success is guaranteed. Secondly, light tanks have the best camouflage, they are the most difficult to notice, but they, in fact, are designed to highlight enemy vehicles. There is one more feature - the battle balancer deliberately assigns light tanks to battles of a higher level. For some this is not very good (because it’s a loss), for others it’s the opposite (experience). However, everything is quite logical - only players with straight arms can constantly play on a light tank. And there are also plenty of inept brakes in WoT, believe me.

If we talk about the best lightweight model, then in our opinion it is the Chinese WZ-132. Why is it good - even in stock, it already brings full assistance to the team, and the elite WZ-132, and even in capable hands, is created not to expose itself to a one-shot, but to quietly shine light, and, if desired, shoot from shelters.

Anti-tank self-propelled artillery mount

She is a tank destroyer or simply a “pet”. The PT's camouflage is very good; its purpose is to inflict serious damage at a long distance, helping to hold the enemy's flanks and breakthrough lines. They are well armored in front, but unfortunately, they are made of cardboard on the sides and back. Their one-time damage is much greater than the damage of heavy tanks, but in most cases, aligning the sight takes an unacceptably long time.

Beginners can start with American PTs - unlike most other models, Americans have turrets, which allows them to adapt faster. If we talk about the coolest anti-tank gun in the game, then in our opinion it is the French AMX 50 Foch (155). Penetration is 5, the gun has a drum for three shells. Quite maneuverable, and the frontal armor often ricochets. Can destroy any tank in literally seconds.

Self-propelled artillery installation

She is a self-propelled gun or just art. It has no armor at all, but it hits powerfully and from afar. The art has a special battle mode - you will see the battle map on top. If you are a beginner player, it is better to pay attention to the British and French branches. Of course, the Soviet Object 261 is considered one of the best self-propelled guns, but getting to it is not so easy. Therefore, in this review we will highlight Bat as the best art. -Chatillon 155 58. French machine, less damage than its classmates, but the drum has 4 shells.

In addition, it is small and maneuverable, therefore unnoticeable, and as soon as it happens you can run, and you’ll catch up. Ideally, you can change position while reloading - both for the benefit of the battle and time well spent.

And now about the levels

As you know, there are ten levels of development in the game. Moreover, practice shows that the very last levels are not as popular as the penultimate ones (according to statistics, it is the eighth level that is the most playable and popular among players). Now we will explain why.

The first four (or even five) levels among players are somewhat derisively called “sandbox”. Well, in fact, if you have a level 2 tank, nothing special is required to play. This is a bit of a trial run, people are just exploring the environment and deciding what style of play suits them best.

Levels 5 to 7 are a kind of “profitable” period. Farm, farm and farm again. Because the further you go, the more expensive the battles become.

Levels 8, 9 and 10 – that’s it, the ceiling. Horribly increases self-esteem and allows you to command incompetent teammates in voice chat. In addition, you need a lot of money for participating in battles at these levels, very expensive shells and repairs.

And so, having reviewed the top, we returned to the beginning - what should a beginner do and which development branch to choose?

In the sandbox, the difference between tank classes is not so noticeable (except that the features of artillery are clear). Choosing a playing style is also difficult, because you can level up to level 4 without much effort in a couple of hours. Therefore, a novice player first of all needs to choose a branch through which he can understand as many aspects of the game as possible. Plus, a beginner should not attempt too complex things, which means that:

  • The tank must have high gun accuracy and good DPM;
  • The armor must also be sufficient to withstand beginner mistakes;
  • Maneuverability is important;
  • The development branch should contain machines that are easy to master and meet the above requirements.

In our opinion, the first thing a newcomer should attend to is to pay tribute to patriotism. Moreover, it is good for gaming health.

This refers to the branch of Soviet heavyweights leading to the IS-7. Why it’s good - already from level 5 you will have to ride almost perfect heavy tanks (well, with some minor deviations). In addition, in addition to the IS-7, there are two more tanks in this branch that become leaders in battles of different modes - the IS-3 and KV-1.

But if you only have one tank in your hangar, it's boring. In addition, there are often cases when you are beaten long before the end of the battle. So you can replenish the hangar and simultaneously master other types of equipment.

To get started, three branches will be enough. You already have one, we offer two more:

  • a branch of medium tanks made in Soviet, which leads to the T-62A;
  • branch of tank destroyers made in France, leading to the AMX 50 Foch (155).

And in conclusion let's say

Straight hands rule. With straight arms, any tank is the best.

However, it wasn’t us who said it, but Captain Obvious. :)

On the other hand, straight-handedness comes in the process of playing on a single tank. So try it. In the end, you will find your style and beat everyone, and even better if you find your team made up of your friends. Read our blog with them and show your opponents who you are and what you are capable of! That's all for today, see you again and have a good game.
