4 kB + 4 kB (kilobytes)
Level 1 cache (L1)

Cache memory is used by the processor to reduce access time to more frequently used data and instructions. L1 (level 1) cache is small in size and works much faster than both system memory and other cache levels. If the processor does not find the requested data in L1, it continues to look for it in the L2 cache. On some processors, this search is performed simultaneously in L1 and L2.

16 kB + 16 kB (kilobytes)
Level 2 cache (L2)

L2 (level 2) cache is slower than L1 cache, but in return it has a higher capacity, allowing it to cache more data. It, like L1, is much faster than system memory (RAM). If the processor does not find the requested data in L2, it continues to look for it in the L3 cache (if available) or in RAM memory.

The new model from Sony represents a comprehensive work on the errors of previous devices. The company tried to create a device that retains all the advantages and successful ideas of its predecessors. But at the same time it eliminates the problems of older devices from the line. The Sony Xperia Z5 (Sony Experia) smartphone turned out to be unusual and is distinguished by its innovations. In the new version, attention was paid to the functions of ergonomics and ease of daily use. According to the manufacturer, the phone should become one with its owner, not only in terms of design, but also in the quality of tactile sensations and software. Let's try to carefully study the review, delve into the detailed description, compare with other models and understand whether these statements are true or not.

Design

We should start this review with the appearance of the smartphone. The new Sony Xperia Z5 (Sony Experia) has retained the traditional concept of OmniBalance designers. The appearance of the smartphone is made in a variation of Sense of Unity. This mobile phone looks truly presentable, luxurious and solid. Strict contours with straight lines emphasize the high cost and sophisticated style of the case. So visually the cost of this model looks higher than its real price.

In the Xperia Z5 series, special emphasis in design was placed on individual details. So the rear window got a matte and foggy look. The original idea allowed not only to refresh the appearance of Sony smartphones, but also to solve one of the key problems. There are practically no traces or fingerprints left on such a surface. Even if they appear, they are easily erased with simple movements.

The back panel conveys excellent tactile sensations. The surface feels rough. When viewed from a distance, frosted glass can easily be confused with plastic or metal. Only touch can convey the quality of a material. It is especially pleasant that it did not greatly affect the final cost of the smartphone.

As a nice innovation in the design, it is worth noting the presence of a built-in fingerprint scanner in the power button on the side panel. This made it possible to emphasize the originality of the style and give a new look to boring functions. The scanner is responsive and uses Qualcomm Sense ID technology. True, its implementation made the lock button more rigid. Pressing requires some effort, so unlocking the screen sometimes does not work the first time.

The new smartphone does not have annoying plugs. The standard package includes a common slot for SD and SIM cards. There is also a modification for sale with a slot for two SIMs - Sony Xperia Z5 Dual. According to the manufacturer, the device has waterproof properties. The smartphone can easily survive a fall into water. This feature was a signature feature in all the company’s stylish models.

Among the design shortcomings, we can highlight the protrusions along the perimeter of the frame. They were made in order to prevent the smartphone from sliding on the surface and causing scratches. However, the price of this innovation turned out to be high and cost users the usual comfort: when you take the Xperia Z5 in your hands, the size and edges cause inconvenience, which slightly spoils the experience. A similar thing happens when you work with the display sensor. When you move your finger across the screen, you involuntarily touch these protrusions. Although this design is practical, it takes time to get used to the device. This disadvantage also includes the inconvenient location of the volume keys. The buttons are located significantly lower than usual in other models.

Screen

The display uses a Sony Triluminos touchscreen IPS matrix with Live Color LED & X-Reality technology. Here, of course, we cannot fail to mention the dimensions: the screen diagonal is 5.2 inches. The image is transmitted in FullHD 1920×1080 resolution. The pixel density is 424 ppi.

The Xperia Z5 has built-in ambient light sensors that are responsible for automatically adjusting the brightness of the display. At the same time, the possibility of precise manual adjustment is preserved. The multi-touch sensor is capable of perceiving and processing up to 10 simultaneous touches. When you hold the phone to your ear during a call, the sensors automatically lock the screen. A nice plus is the ability to operate the smartphone with gloves.

In general, the quality of color rendering and brightness of the model is excellent. The shades are rich, the colors are bright, the image is excellent. The anti-glare screen and a wide range of brightness settings will allow you to comfortably use the phone in direct sunlight.

Sound

The Sony Xperia Z5 has deservedly received praise for its stereo sound quality. And no matter how many there are, it will not be enough. The speakers and overall sound of the smartphone deserve applause. The Japanese company was able to realize clear and loud sound with a good bass range. Not a single smartphone from all Sony lines could boast of such properties.

The mobile phone is equipped with S-Force Front Surround sound system and DSEE HX quality enhancement technology. To listen to your favorite music and tracks, there are wide options and as many different options for improving the sound using personal settings and a built-in audio player as a smartphone can have. The entire sound palette is revealed well when you connect headphones to your smartphone.

As for communicating on the phone, the Xperia Z5 is doing great. The interlocutor's voice is recognizable and retains familiar intonation and timbre. Noise-canceling technology protects conversations from wind gusts and outside sounds in open spaces.

Camera

The smartphone uses two digital cameras with resolutions of 23 MP and 5 MP. The developers have placed emphasis on the quality and detail of the resulting photos. The main camera uses the new Sony Exmor RS with a 1/2.3 sensor and a 24mm G Lens. The aperture has an f/2.0 setting. Hybrid autofocus along with LED flash ensures high focusing accuracy and speed.

The front camera uses the same wide-angle 25 mm G Lens and a 5 MP Exmor R module. There is no flash and a fixed focus.

For shooting photos and videos, there is an HDR mode and an electronic SteadyShot image stabilization system with Intelligent Active Mod function. The camera interface has flexible settings, as well as options for recognizing smiles and “soft skin”.

In general, each camera copes well with its responsibilities and demonstrates the good quality of the resulting photos and videos in 4K resolution. The picture is detailed and sharp. In poor lighting, frames lose quality, but remain at an acceptable level. If we compare the Z5 with other smartphones, it outperforms its younger predecessors, but is still inferior to the flagships of other companies. And at the same time it is inferior significantly.

Specifications and performance

The hardware of the smartphone is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chipset. The x64 platform is made using a 20 nm process technology and consists of eight ARM Cortex cores. They reliably cope with assigned tasks and demonstrate good performance. The smartphone's RAM is 3 GB. Flash memory is designed for 32 GB. You can expand the volume up to 200 GB using additional microSD.

The Sony Xperia Z5 (Sony Experia) went on sale with an operating system based on the 5th version of Android LolliPop. The changes affected the interface with a description and the processing of the existing shell. All innovations in the menu and sections are designed to improve style and ease of use. At the moment, a software update to the sixth version of Android Marshmallow is available for the smartphone.

The Adreno 430 video accelerator is responsible for the work in the graphical aspect. AnTuTu tests give top results. When running gaming applications at high graphics settings, the smartphone behaves perfectly. FPS drops and performance drops occur due to gradual heating. This problem is typical for all Snapdragon 810. Heating is more localized in the upper part of the device, where the SoC is located. The smartphone temperature reaches 45-47°C. At the same time, the device feels significantly hot and you can only get rid of this feeling with the help of a case.

But, despite this drawback, the Xperia Z5 hardware demonstrates excellent performance and a high performance margin. This guarantees owners reliable performance and the ability to run the most demanding applications. This mobile phone will be able to adequately withstand comparison and compete with other representatives of the flagship series, and will also retain the relevance of its technical content for many years to come.

Accumulator battery

And finally, we should conclude this review with a description of the battery parameters. Autonomy is ensured by a battery with a capacity 2900 mAh. Its capabilities are enough for standard daily work with an active screen. The smartphone lasts for 40 hours without additional charging. But if you increase the intensity of the load, the battery discharges quite quickly. This is due to the demanding platform, as well as the large FullHD display.

In standby mode, the charge will last 540 hours, but if you start watching videos in high resolution FullHD, the phone will last only 7.5 hours. You can relax with continuous games with the device for no more than 3.5 hours.

conclusions

The Sony Xperia Z5 smartphone has emerged as a successful leader in the flagship series and has earned positive reviews. Price in 25 thousand rubles justifies all possible functions, so this cost can be counted as a definite plus in the treasury of this model. However, there are a number of contradictions here. The phone has a truly cool and original design, acceptable dimensions, interesting colors, but a number of innovations at the same time spoil the good impression. This applies to the side frames on the case, the tight power button with a fingerprint scanner, and constant heating during operation. It seems that a 23 MP camera is a new product for Sony smartphones, but in terms of quality they are still inferior to their competitors.

At the Berlin IFA 2015 exhibition in September, Sony debuted its new flagship smartphone, the Xperia Z5. The main feature that the company is putting pressure on is a 4K screen. Its clarity is many times higher than that of Apple with its iPhone 6. However, only the premium, super-expensive version has such a screen. But even a regular, even relatively affordable Xperia Z5 can surprise users. For starters, it has a very powerful camera. The best on the market. The smartphone also boasts an improved design, an insanely powerful processor and an updated interface.

Frame

The smartphone has become thicker and heavier than its predecessors, Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z4. But these are just flowers. The signature round power button has completely disappeared. Instead, there is an oblong key with a built-in fingerprint reader. You can make sure that the smartphone turns on only for its owner. Moreover, different fingerprints, like Apple technology, can be configured for different types of operations. The index finger, for example, will be suitable for unlocking the device, the thumb finger will be used to confirm the purchase of applications on Google Play, and the middle finger will be suitable for making contactless payments.

The device contains a lot of metal elements. Both the cap and the buttons are made of steel. The edging is durable polished frosted glass. It is made using special Sony Frozen Glass technology, and fingerprints are almost invisible on it. The frame of the device protrudes a fraction of a millimeter above the screen. This is done to prevent the display from being scratched on the table surface. The Xperia Z5 smartphone looks stylish and seems reliable, it is pleasant to look at. The model is available in several color options: white, yellow, green and black.

Much attention is paid to protecting the device from dust and moisture. The plastic plug has been removed from the Micro USB connector, but Sony assures that this has not affected safety: the Xperia Z5 has the same degree of protection as previous top-end Z-series devices: IP65/IP68. In other words, the device is suitable for any operating conditions. True, for some reason Sony is not talking about the possibility of shooting with a smartphone underwater this time.

Ergonomic disadvantages include the scanner button. Users of previous versions may notice that it is large, stiff, and not as comfortable as the simple and familiar power keys that came before. The volume rockers are too low, it is not very clear how the user should reach them. If you try to change the volume in a hurry, you may accidentally drop your phone.

Camera

The smartphone has the best Sony camera. Resolution – 23 megapixels. Focus is a hybrid, and the fastest in the world at the moment (only 0.03 s). Digital zoom – up to 5x, no loss of quality observed. Engineers from the Sony Alpha department worked on the smartphone, and, as usual, they managed to outshine their competitors. There is almost no loss of quality when zooming and accidentally blurred photos. Even in poor lighting, the camera takes pictures quite well. And the improved auto mode can now shoot not only in 8 megapixels, but also in increased clarity - 20 megapixels and 23 megapixels. The only downside here is that the camera interface is complicated: there are too many options and settings that are difficult to understand. Sony promises to fix it in the next major patch.

The front camera is also impressive: wide-angle, 5 megapixels. The device also has the ability to record video in 4K resolution. The Xperia Z5 is perfect for photographers who can't always bring other equipment with them. The pictures here are the highest quality we've ever seen on a Sony smartphone, and that's saying a lot.

Display

...the display does not fade even in bright sunlight...

Xperia Z5 Premium is the world's first smartphone with a resolution of 3840x2160. But, unfortunately, the regular, less expensive Xperia Z5 model is a little more modest. There were rumors that the smartphone would have a 2K display, but it didn’t work out: there is a completely traditional Full HD panel with a diagonal of 5.2 inches. The crazy thing here is different: the maximum screen brightness according to technical specifications. the characteristics are raised to 700 (!) cd/m2. In reality - much less, but still the display does not fade even in bright sunlight. The color gamut is very pleasing: 130% sRGB. The colors are rich and rich, but not overly so. On your smartphone you can view in all their splendor the pictures that were taken with its excellent camera.

The screen has one significant drawback: energy consumption. If you turn it on at maximum brightness, the battery won't last long.

Performance

...an eight-core processor is enough for any games and videos...

The device is built on an eight-core Snapdragon 810 processor with 2.0 GHz and is equipped with 3 GB of RAM. This is absolutely enough for any games and videos, even in 4K resolution. The Xperia Z5 Premium has the same processor, although the screen resolution is 4 times higher. Therefore, this device has a huge power reserve. Content with 4K resolution is just beginning to become popular, and the basis for it has already been prepared in this smartphone. It's safe to say that the Xperia Z5's features will last for many years to come.

The device has little internal memory, 32 GB, but there is a slot for memory cards. Cards up to 200 GB are suitable there (since March of this year, such cards can already be found on sale). If you buy an additional card, there will be enough space for an arbitrarily large collection of photos and videos.

Interface and OS

The smartphone runs a fairly typical Android 5.1. Unless, as already mentioned, the appearance of the shooting application has changed. It now looks more like what the iPhone offers, but the buttons aren't laid out as thoughtfully. However, you can always use third-party applications if you are more used to them.

An interesting point is that each color of the smartphone has its own theme. If you take a device with a gold body, everything inside will also be in yellow and dark yellow colors. Then, of course, the interface can be changed in the settings.

Battery

The Xperia Z5 has a 2900 mAh battery. For 4K resolution this would not be enough, but for local FullHD it is just enough. The screen of this smartphone uses several times less energy than the Xperia Z5 Premium, and therefore the device has a fairly decent uptime. Even with active use, the device easily lasts for two days.
And if you don’t turn on Wi-Fi unnecessarily and watch less video, the device can last a week. In addition, the Xperia Z5 supports QualcommQuickCharge 2.0 technology, which allows the smartphone to charge faster than usual. True, for this you will have to buy a UCH-10 adapter. The standard charger included in the package only charges the old fashioned way."

Competitors

Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge

The smartphone is a little older. With Android 5.0, similar processor and RAM, almost the same cool camera. It is smaller in size, lighter, but has a much better screen resolution - 2560x1440. The clarity is much higher, but this is a double-edged sword: the Galaxy S6's battery is only designed for 2660 mAh, so in the end the smartphone lasts much less.

HTC One M9

Almost the same dimensions, identical weight, very similar display and almost identical camera. Even the processor in the HTC One M9 is similar, the 8-core Snapdragon 810. If you want something similar to the Xperia Z5, only from a different company, or the new product from Sony has not yet reached your store, take the HTC One M9 and you can't go wrong. The only noticeable difference here is the design. It's also worth noting that HTC's card slot can't accept 200GB SD cards.

Apple iPhone 6

Also a top-end device, but on the other side of the spectrum. If you have any personal gripes with Android or if you like the Apple concept, the choice is clear. True, at a similar price, the iPhone 6 offers a much smaller screen, a weaker camera, a modest resolution, a less advanced processor and a complete absence of a slot for third-party drives. In terms of characteristics, the iPhone 6 has long been inferior to all top Android devices, and even more so to their king, the Sony Xperia Z5.

Opinions

If a year ago, at IFA 2014, it was difficult for us to say whether Sony's flagship could really become better, then this year there is no particular doubt: a new camera, a new processor and a fingerprint sensor make the Z5 family definitely more advanced than the Z3 line

Mobiletelefon.ru

We have before us some of the most powerful smartphones on the market with a lot of unique features and their own personality, not copying competitors and trying to give the user the best that the company is capable of. They can be praised for this effort. Well, the rest is just a matter of little things - polishing up the software and offering adequate price tags

Sony Xperia Z5 is a very promising smartphone. It continues the line of excellent Xperia Z3, boasting excellent video and audio quality. Plus, we see an excellent camera here and a fresh, updated design. Only time will tell if the new model can win as many awards as its predecessor. So far it seems quite likely

The new Z5 smartphone is a continuation of the top line from the Japanese manufacturer. The smartphone turned out to be stylish, powerful and practical, and in some aspects even ahead of its predecessors. Let's take a closer look at the characteristics of the mini-flagship and its design.

Frame

The plastic monolithic body here is waterproof, so you shouldn’t be afraid to use the smartphone in rainy weather. The device can remain in water for some time without any negative consequences. Users are free to choose from several color options, including red, sandy yellow, black, white and coral. All options look great. The smartphone fits perfectly in the hand, does not slip and is extremely easy to use. So the developers have something to please customers, since the aesthetic side is a clear advantage of the Sony Xperia Z5. Technical specifications, however, are also not far behind.

On the front panel, in addition to the display, there is a speaker, light and proximity indicator. There are no mechanical or touch keys on the front side.

On the right side of the device there are buttons for volume control, camera activation, power and a fingerprint sensor. Now the smartphone can be unlocked with one touch.

On the left side there is a cover that hides compartments for flash drives and SIM cards. At the top there is a 3.5 mm headset jack and an additional microphone, and at the bottom there is a main microphone and a micro-USB connector for synchronizing the smartphone with a computer or charging. We note that the device supports fast and wireless charging. The rear body houses the camera and flash.

The overall dimensions of the device are 127 x 65 x 8.9 mm, weight - 138 g.

Screen

The 4.6-inch screen has a high-quality IPS matrix. The resolution is 720p with a pixel density of 323 ppi. The display also has special scratch protection, which makes using the device even more comfortable. The colors in the smartphone are good, the viewing angles are decent, the device behaves well in the sun: the display practically does not fade. In general, Sony’s screen, as always, is fine, although perhaps someone was expecting Full HD for that price.

Sony Compact: flagship specifications

The device is equipped with an eight-core Qualcomm MSM8994 Snapdragon 810 processor: four cores (Cortex-A53) operate at a frequency of 1.5 GHz, and the other four (Cortex-A57) operate at a frequency of 2 GHz. Unfortunately, there is only 2 GB of RAM, although 3 could be installed to match the general technical capabilities. But the developers did not skimp on memory for data storage, since there is as much as 32 GB of it with the possibility of expansion using micro-SD memory cards. The smartphone is capable of reading flash drives up to 200 GB. Speaking about communications and interfaces, we note 4G, Bluetooth v4.1, micro-USB v2.0, USB-Host and Wi-Fi: 802.11.

Cameras

Next up are the most interesting features of the Sony Xperia Z5 - the technical characteristics of the optics. The main camera has a 23 megapixel, LED flash and excellent autofocus, allowing you to achieve extraordinary image quality. Additional features include face recognition, HDR, geotagging, panoramic shooting and other interesting features. It should also be noted that the device shoots videos with 4K resolution at 30 frames/s.

The front optics are somewhat smaller: only 5.1 megapixels. However, selfie shots come out to a very high level. In addition, we are pleased with the presence of the HDR function and the ability to make videos with

Sound

Next in the Sony Xperia Z5 review are the technical characteristics of the speaker and music player. The speaker of the smartphone turned out to be quite loud and clear: melodies are clearly audible even from your pocket. Sound in headphones allows you to ditch the MP3 player and use your smartphone as a music gadget. A wide range of different functions makes it possible to make all the necessary settings. Creating playlists, adjusting the equalizer and preset sound profiles are just a few of them.

Battery

The model is equipped with a lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 2700 - the figure is not very impressive. Although the smartphone's screen is small and the resolution is normal HD, with intensive use you will have to charge the gadget daily, and with moderate use - once every day and a half. This is where the fast charging option comes to the rescue, allowing you to add up to 5 hours of battery life to your phone in 10 minutes (in moderate mode, of course).

Conclusion

The Sony Xperia Z5 smartphone (technical characteristics confirm this) turned out to be powerful, functional and stylish. I was impressed by the attractive display and the camera, which allows you to take excellent pictures and high-quality videos. The set of all the most advanced interfaces along with high-quality sound is impressive. Among the shortcomings, we note that for the price of 24-25 thousand rubles, the developers simply had to install 3 GB of RAM and a Full HD display. If there is no urgent need for the second one, since the screen sizes here are quite small by modern standards, then 2 GB of RAM can soon become a serious drawback. It would also be useful to install a more capacious battery of about 3000 mAh. The overall picture is obvious: the Sony Xperia Z5 Compact, whose technical characteristics and multimedia capabilities clearly met the expectations of many (what is the camera alone worth), unfortunately, was not without its shortcomings. Perhaps they will be corrected in the next models of the line.
